What does everyone do....?
Oh Melissa - we may be twins seperated at birth. I absolutely loved science when I was in school. I had all my scholarships in place to go to college when I graduated even had my schedule and had taken my placement tests but then backed out and came running home to moma and daddy. My Dad was a commercial fisherman and hunting guide all of his life so I grew up as a wharf rat. I spent every minute I could on the deck of his trawler - fishing and shrimping in Pamlico and Core sounds mostly.
To everyone else - I had started replying to each and every post yesterday but yall got ahead of me last night ( I went to bed early). I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the posts - there is a passionate side that seems to come out in us when we talk about our kids and careers. I'll out my thinking cap on and try to come up with something else for next week.
We've certainly got a diverse group on here and it cements my belief that no matter what stage of this journey you're on there is someone else that has been there and will help you through. Have a great day.

What a great post Iris!
I teach private piano and voice lessons. It's super part-time, but it's definitely a lot of fun! Other than that my time is spent shopping, working out, shopping, playing with the dogs, shopping, working around the house and oh, sometimes I like to do a little bit of shopping! :)
I worked for 10 years at Boeing as a financial analyst and configuration/data manager. Loved, loved, loved that job. When we moved here, they transferred it to a virtual position for me so I could work from home for the company in Florida. But after a year new management came in and didn't like that set-up. So it ended. :( Then I started to think about where my passions lie, and that's when I started teaching lessons!

I am currently working as a Full time Early Head Start /Parent Educator at my local Head Start program in Goldsboro. I go out and do home visits with parents of children birth to three years old. I have always worked with children and they will be phasing out my job in two weeks and I will be going back into the classroom. I really love working one on one with children and families and want to do this again. So my plan is to get my bachelors degree and obtain my Infant/Toddler certification and work with children with special needs one on one. I am also looking for a part time job either working from home or a few hours after I get off of work in the afternoon. If anyone knows of any please let me know.
Unfortunately, I am unemployed at the moment but desperately trying to change that!!! I started working as an office assitant part time when I was 17 years old and have done that type of work ever since. I did go back to school for a medical office assitant course in 2004 and have worked in the medical field since that time. I tried moving to Arkansas to be nearer to my family in early July but I hated it there so I decided to come back to my hometown in Virginia. Been back for about 2 weeks and so far, not having much luck in finding a job. I do have an interview lined up for Thursday of next week as an office assistant for a doctor's office so wish me luck on that and keep me in your prayers! Thanks!

Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum. And, blast it, I can't figure out how to get a new avatar to show up! All my photos are more than 100 pixels x 100.
Anyway, I am a flutist and flute technician. I perform with my own flute ensemble called the "Mountains of Asheville Flute Ensemble." There are about 12 of us and we play piccolo, C flute, alto flute, bass flute and even contrabas!! We play at churches, the Masonic Temple, retirement communities, etc.
Personally, I perform a lot at the Biltmore House. Sometimes I play on the 3rd floor, sometimes in the Winter Garden or down in the Winery. I play at Christmas time in the House, and in the Winery now and then during the year. I also play weddings, funerals, church services, stuff like that.
I also have my own flute and piccolo repair business. I do 2 things there: buy, fix and then sell flutes and piccolos, and I also fix flutes and piccs belonging to other people. I have a website, www.flutestar.com , which I designed and which has brought in work for me from all over the US and in fact in several foreign countries. I love my work and have just built a new workshop.

I'm a registered nurse and I work with postop surgical patients, including bariatric postop patients of Drs. Bauman and Pirrello at CMC-Northeast in Concord. I LOVE it! My favorite patients are bariatric patients, but I like surgical patients in general. I am thinking about transferring to the operating room. I've interviewed and am waiting to hear back as to when I can transfer. I think it'll be the first of the year because you have to go through their internship program to work in that department unless you have a lot of operating room experience, and I don't. I've only scrubbed into a few surgeries before in a labor & delivery environment, and general surgery is different to say the least. I've been a nurse since 2003.
Previous to nursing, I was a medical transcriptionist for 16 years. I enjoyed that, worked from home for about 1/2 of that time when my now teenagers were smaller, and it was nice to have the flexibility. I miss that sometimes because nursing certainly doesn't offer flexibility. I have a 9 year old that I'd love to be able to spend more time with, but I do the best I can and he and I do what we can when we can together. I only work 3 days/week at least. My teenagers are 19 and 18 and are too interested in their own lives to hang out with mom anymore!
