What is your weakness

I was just wondering what you weaknesses are (food or drink wise) after surgery. I have  a weakness for nabs(i.e. lance crackers) I know the carbs aren't good for me but we have just recently bought a house that needs alot of work and when I am in a hurry and just need to eat something I eat 3 nabs from a pack. Please tell me I am not alone in eating something I know I shouldn't. I hope once we get moved in and settled I will be able to explore more quick choices but for now I just don't feel like I have the time. I have only been at home the last 2 weeks after 8pm and I am  usually gone by 9 each morning. What do you do when you are out and about for food? My kids love Mickey D's and Wendy's and since I have this ulcer there is nothing I can eat at either. Chili is a bad bad thing on an ulcer. Just wondering.

Nabs actually make me sick.  Even the low carb ones.

My weakness (So I don't even keep it in the house) was Smuckers Sugar Free Hot Fudge Topping (with Splenda).  I'd put some on a grahm cracker and then some sugar free cool whip and free it to make a cold smore type treat.

I found I was going back into old habbits with that, so I refuse to even keep them in the house.

My weakness is soy chips.  I could eat an entire bag of them.  I make myself reseal them in a food saver container after I take out my 15 for a serving.  Sometimes I take only 10 and sprinkle them with a tiny amount of shredded cheddar and nuke them for 15 sec.  If they are sealed back up then I can't just go dig in.  As for eating out, I get a grilled chicken patty at MickyD's for $1.  Usually can't eat it all, but it is protein.  I have tried just a hamburger patty, but that doesn't work too well for me.  Taco Bell beans are good, not sure how an ulcer would react. The meat off any sandwhich - Subway, Quiznos, Arbys.  For sit down eating, I love Logan's Roadhouse ribs - fall off the bone tender!  I can usually eat the meat off 3 ribs.  MMMMM!! Unfortunately, quick choices are hard to find for us.  We need to take our time!

Melissa,

First, I think my weakness is probably chocolate, of course as I get farther out and I can really eat anything I want there are probably more, but like Jennifer/Cagair said, I try not to keep 'contraband' in the house so that I don't fall into old, bad habits. If I really 'have' to have something, then I can get a small piece and enjoy it and throw the rest out.

Next, believe me when I say that I know that you are stressed and stretched way too thin. I think that is an issue for many and honestly one that we don't have a very good track record with handling in a way that is healthy for us. I know that the stress I underwent with my daughter's surgery was incredible for me and I would have like to turn to comfort foods/patterns, but it's important to realize how dangerous that behaviour can be. So, I know that you are on the run, but it's important that you take some time to plan how to successfully care for yourself while doing all of this other stuff that 'needs' to be done and I'm sure with a new house that needs work, plus three boys you've got to be burning that candle from both ends and at least 3 places in the middle, but it's imperative that you make and take time for yourself. That time may be making sure that you have snacks/foods in a cooler that you keep in your car that will support your needs and goals.

Finally, surviving fast foods ... I'm able to handle grilled chicken and will get that most fast food rest. You can get a grilled chicken wrap at most and have them hold the 'sauce' that packs on so many of the calories and just 'toss' the tortillia. You can also just order a grilled chicken breast from McD's, plain, no bun, no salad ... they usually charge me about $1.00 for it and it's high protien and is about 100 calories and you may not be able to eat the whole thing. It's kept very moist in a warming 'bath', so you won't have to worry about it being dry. I also have done well by stopping at the grocery store or HanDee Hugo's and getting some cottage cheese or South Beach wrap or Salad starter .... you can just skip the wrap itself or lettuce. They are inexpensive, fast, high protien and low carb/low cal.

Hope that helps.

Hugs,

Barb

My weakness has always been and still is cheese. yum.
If you want to eat something quick why not grab soy crisps or whole grain crackers? at least if its slightly 'junky' make it healthy so you get something out of it (fiber, protein).. cheese and crackers are one of my favorite easy to grab snacks. Turkey jerky, south beach bars, fiber one bars, protein bars are all easy to grab and go.
If I am out and about and need food... most fast food places have 'ok' choices, I typically stick with some form of grilled chicken and/or a salad. If I can do a sandwich place then I will do that and get no bread or eat as little of the bread as possible. Many times I try and just bring something with me if I know I am going to be running around - bars, nuts, etc basically anything that can keep in the car and doesnt need ref. If anything a lot of gas stations (larger ones) have some decent food choices - fruit, cheese, yogurts etc so sometimes you can even luck out there.

My weakness is HT cheese straws.
I do not buy them anymore and am trying to have another snack choices like grapes, baby carrots and cherries and sometime a rice cake.
Because I have this weakness I have found recording my intake helps me.

You are not alone Melissa!!!
My weakness right now is Bread and Butter Pickle Chips, I can't get enough of them and for 6 chips they are 6 grams of carbs, 6 grams of sugar..BAD I KNOW!!.
BUT I did bring in some Salsa Flavored Sun Chips the other day and OMIGOODNESS, NEVER again will those be in my house!! I was munching straight out of the bag as if I had nothing to worry about And I am currently potty training my daughter and she gets rewarded with 2 M & M's everytime she goes potty!! Well, I seem to think that I have to reward myself too with those yummy decadent little chocolate buggers!!!  I suppose eating 3 or 4 M&M's is not going to hurt me as if i were to grab a king size pack and chow down, but still its the point!!! LOL I suppose that could be why I am at a stall..YET AGAIN!!! This is what makes this process so hard, is all of the obstacles that we have to be strong enough to walk away from!!!  But a little temptation indulgence once in a while is not going to hurt you, just DONT fall back into the old habits!!! Again, you are not alone!!
