3 months follow up at Duke
I had my 3 month follow up at Duke. The surgeon really made me mad. I had lost 53 pounds and he said that was not enough. I have MS and I really thought that I had done great. I excerise about 3 times a week.
With MS you get tired easily and can not do it 2 days in a row or I will be in the bed. I think that he had no concept of what MS is for some people.
I am continuing the best I can and hope to lose more. I am at a stand still at the moment

I agree - you are doing great!!! I had someone tell me the same thing at a support group (a patient that had not even had surgery) - don't let it get you down. Keep up the good work!! When was the last time, if EVER, you lost 53 pounds in 3 months?? Me - NEVER!!!

I have a new philosophy, I'm only going to dread one day at a time. Charlie Brown
Someone - NOT my Dr told me that I was failing because I've only lost 149lbs and I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary on 8-30.
It too made me angry. Since when is consistantly losing 13.5lbs a month bad? And your averaging 17.5... I just can't see anything wrong with that!?! And your exercising more than I am! I have not been good or consistent with my exercing. MAYBE once a week... MAYBE. I'm getting back on track with that. I have another 90+ lbs to go, and I don't want to give up.
But I think what angers me the most is that it was your surgeon that told you that!
The only thing I my surgeon has ever said was that he would like to see me losing the weight I am losing, but he wanted me to build some more muscle mass as well. - Which means, more exercising. The more muscle, the faster it burns up the fat. But I've been told by my surgeon and 2 different nutritionists that I'm slightly above average for RNY Weight loss, which means I'm doing well.

Dear Betty,
I'm sorry that your appointment didn't go well. I wish you continued success as you move forward on your journey.

Betty,
I am sure it was disappointing and maddening to you... after all we want our doctors to be proud of us and support us.
I must chime in with the other posters and say that 53 pounds in 3 months sounds amazing to me...
Look for the positives - you are healthier, you feel better, you can exercise - you've got a future !
And Congratulations!
