I'm so Hungry
My surgery is on Friday, August 8th up at Pitt, and I've been on a liquid diet for a week now. While it has gotten easier, I am so hungry and it seems like that's all I think about. Did anybody else feel that way prior to and after surgery? I have NEVER thought I had an obsession for food until now and it makes me concerned. I keep telling myself that it's only because you can't have it right now that I'm constantly thinking about it and I'm just nervous.
When I'm at work, I'm fine. But home is killing me. LOL. Thanks for listeining.

Hi Angie,
I think the liquid fast was probably one of the hardest parts of this journey for me. The good news is that it's for a relatively short, finite period of time. I know it's hard, but it's worth it. The good news is that if you are like me, you won't spend the rest of your journey constantly fixated on food ... what you can have and what you can't. I think it's almost a necessary reset when you start the journey. It's almost like you have to wipe the slate clean and start over, but eventually, I got to a point where I can eat just about anything I want to eat which is something that I really appreciate now. I was talking to my mom about this tonight. She was telling me what she'd eaten during the day and was guesstimating what the coloric totals where ... she'd had a couple of shortbread cookies and I told her that they were probably 115 to 150 calories each ... she said, "Oh no, I'm sure they aren't that much." She reached for the box and low and behold, they were 110 calories each. My point, is that I never used to be very aware of what I ate, the volume, or the caloric, protien, fat or carb content of what I was eating. Now I have a very good handle on all of that because I really track what I eat. Tracking what I eat keeps me in touch with what I'm doing and honestly I tend to make better choices when I see the impact of what I'm eating. Now, I'm not obsessed with food like I was during the liquid fast you are now going thru, but I have become very aware and it's a healthy thing. I'll bet that the same will happen for you.
Wishing you all the best,
Barb

There is nothing, I repeat nothing resembling "the easy way out" that some people would like to make you believe this journey is all about. It's hard start-to-finish, and then some. We've all been where you are right now and we will experience days like that again. But they are do-able, and just when you think you're at the end of your rope, you get some help tying a knot in that rope and hang on!
You're gonna make it!

I ABSOLUTELY know how hard it is!!! Been there done that and was in tears at one point ~ stupid grilled cheese sandwich ~ i had to bend over and smell it!!! Remember it will be soooooooooo worth it in the end!! The one thing about it is, your stomach is still the same size and it is saying "woman feed me" LOL Your Optisource is full of the protein, calories and nutrients that your body needs to survive!! STAY OUT OF THE KITCHEN and maybe find something to do at home that will keep you busy! Do you scrapbook?? That is a good thing to do, because you can't touch the pictures with greasy fingers....LOL
I am so sorry we haven't been able to get together, i have a house full of family from Michigan!! You can definately count on us getting together when you are healed, maybe i can even come see you before!!!
Hang in there and if you still need an angel, let me know :) K!!! I would love to do so!!
Talk to you soon ((((HUGS)))) JAMI
