I'm so glad you're home...My upper back hurt more than anything else also...Doctor couldn't understand and I had my husband bring my my heating pad at the hospital.  It seem to get better as soon as I started laying on my side more.
I hear ya about the toddler thing...I have a 4 year old and 10 month old and I just couldn't even play with them when I came home.

Not sure about the sponge baths...I was allowed to shower the day I came home and was just told to change my bandages when I'm done.  Do you have staples or stitches?  I had staples.

Well anyhow...I'm glad you're ok and can't wait to share in  your journey!!!

Congratulations Melissa!  Welcome to the loser's bench.  I didn't have staples, I had stitches, and was encouraged to shower when I got home.  It might be something to do with the staples, I don't know.  Anyway, as always, follow your doctor's guidelines.  As far as your hair, I would do it over the kitchen sink as soon as I was able to bend over for that long.  Your DH can help you with it.

I had diarrhea after surgery, not quite this early, but I had RNY not LapBand.  I think that the difference is with RNY our bowels are resected and it takes a while for them to "wake up" and start working.  WIth LapBand yours weren't cut, so yours are still going strong.  If you think about it, all you've had for a few days now is liquids, so liquids are what's going to come out.  It took me nearly 2 weeks to stop having diarrhea.  Every one is different though, so you sort of have to feel your way on some of these things.

Take care, keep walking and sipping.
Ellen

Glad you are home. Hope you continue to improve especially with your back.  It does get easier. I had RNY and was able to shower when I got home. The doctor said I had something like super glue for stutures and not to worry it would wash right off as it did. I gained 7 lbs while in the hospital over night but that is fluids and will go away quickly. I weighted this morning and have lost 9 lbs in 9 days. :))))))))

Hang in there and keep up the good work.

Hey Melissa, it's great to hear from you.  Ally did a great job keeping us posted on your progress!  Keep that pillow near by, it will come in handy for a number of things other than attacks from toddlers :-)

The first thing I did when I got home was get in the shower, but my incisions were closed up with glue and it felt so good to get cleaned up and wash my hair.

Hang in there girl, the worst is over and it's all down hill from here on......

Melissa,

You sound better today than yesterday when we talked... glad things are going better.

I was dermabonded and told to shower in the hospital and just pat dry.  Felt great to get home and shower and shampoo.  I haven't had any diarrhea or for that matter even a bowel movement yet.  Today I start on soft foods - like pudding and yogurt and protein drinks.  So it is just a matter of time.

I weighed this morning and I am up 3 pounds from when I went to the hospital weight.  My belly feels *firm* and I know there is still some gas to expel...  I know this is more info than you wanted....  LOL

The main thing is we are home and our new lifestyle begins.  When do you go back to the doctor for post-op appt.  I go Thursday morning.

Keep sipping and walking as they say...

Melissa,

Woo hoo!!!  Welcome to the loosers bench girl!!!  I remember that discomfort and the coughing... whew!  Hug that pillow tight, it is much worse if you don't have it!  Have you sneezed yet?? YIKES!  I had my RNY almost 6 years ago but I've 2 other abdominal surgeries and they all suck!  lol!  (don't get me wrong, I am very happy with my RNY!!!) I had to wait until my staples were out on all 3 surgeries before I could take a shower, so you're probably right about taking a sponge bath until then...  But that first shower will feel like heaven, have someone nearby when you take it, I felt very faint when I got out of the shower after all 3 surgeries times.  As for washing your hair, I agree with Annie, have your DH help you wa**** in the sink, or hey go have it washed at a salon - pamper yourself!  Anyway, I'll let you go...  Oh that upper back pain is probably gas pain, I know it sounds weird but I got it in my back and shoulders mostly.

Good luck girl, I hope you feel better soon!!!

Hey Girlie Girl - MacDonald said no tub baths for me but that showering was ok as long as just soap and water in the staple area then dry pat them dry. I reread the stuff and that's what all his post op papers say too.

Tell the husband you don't want to suck the rib bones but you're planing on disposing of them where the sun don't shine - he should back off a little - specially is you hit him with one.

Sip, Sip Sip and walk walk walk.

Hey - WE'RE ON THE LOSERS BENCH FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.
