Preop and trying to stay positive
Ok i admit it, I'm a hypochondriac. My surgery is next Wednesday (I can't believe it's finally here!) and I am trying to stay completely objective, trying to keep myself from neither associating the surgical/hospital experience as a good or bad thing... just a "thing"... but my anxiety is starting to get the best of me and I am thinking of turning back.
any ideas on how to de-stress?
EDIT: just an FYI, I'm going in for Lap RNY and a gallbladder removal at the same time. yikes!!!!!!!!

It's completely natural to feel anxious the closer you get to the big day, but keep the end goal in mind and you will be fine! Hang in there, next time this week, you'll be on the losers bench with the rest of us LOSERS!

Alice is right when she says focus on what a great future RNY is going to bring to you. Make either a literal list, or just in your mind's eye, all the things you are going to enjoy when you are healthier and fitter. Write a list of goals, starting from the smallest to the biggest. Keep focused on what you need to do to make your RNY a success and how you are going to do them. Don't read anything negative, even if that means taking a break from the computer. When you start feeling the stress levels rising, do something you enjoy doing to take your mind off of things...listen to music, read a book, go outside for fresh air or a walk, schedule some pampering for yourself between now and Wed. (a massage, manicure, pedicure)...anything that will make you feel good and lesson your anxiety. Believe me, I'm preaching to the choir here! I'm having to dig deep to keep my stress levels to a minimum lately and I plan to implement any and all of things if need be! You are in my thoughts!
I agree with everyone else, don't turn back now. You will most likely regret it. What worked for me was (after I had done extensive research and made a final decision) I put it out of my mind. I did my level best to NOT think about it. I'm sure you've done all the research, talked to countless people about it, and wore out two keyboards on OH.com right? So, try to make peace with the decision you've already made. Believe me, the surgery itself will feel like it took about 3 seconds, really strange, and you'll be glad you found the courage to go through with it.
Good luck to you!
