Gal bladder and RNY

I went for my pre-op at the hospital today. I have lost 10 lbs since last Tuesday on this diet. I have also grown an inch. when the tech was getting my height she said you are 6'4", I said no I have always been 6'3" she said I am showing you as 6'4" she said must be the heal on your shoe, I had loafers on maybe 1/4" so maybe I have gone an inch over the last 20 years since I have been measured.

I also Found out they are  taking my gal bladder out Tuesday when they do my RNY. I knew it was a possibility if they ultrasound showed any problems with it. I never asked just thought since I did not hear other wise it was fine. The nurse said today no the ultra sound showed it needed to come out. That is fine with me, while you are in there go ahead and take it out and save me a trip at a later date. I was just wondering how this works with the healing from the surgery. I have not seen any post on this. Thanks for the help!

I had my gallbladder out at the same time as my RNY (which was lap, by the way) and I had no problems healing.  I had just the 5 very small incisions with the biggest one being maybe an inch in length if that much. If I hadn't know my doc was going to take it out then, I wouldn't have even known it was gone!  It was a walk in the park.  Congrats on the 10 lb loss and good luck to you!

Good luck on the wls. I wish they had taken mine out while they had me open. I have had no trouble yet but know it may be an issue later.  You will do fine!

Hi Jeff congratulations on the 10 pounds.
I got a little taller too after some weight loss.
The way I understand it is that with added weight it sorta pulls your body frame down and as the weight comes off you are able to stand taller so who knows maybe one day you will be 6'6.
Good luck with your surgery and I think it is a good idea to get that gallbladder out now instead of later.

If they need it to come out then they will take it. I would like for them (dr. Newman) to have taken mine out but mine had no issues requiring it so I get to keep mine for later. You are doing great little brother. Keep it up.

I had my gall bladder out two days ago. I had no stones before RNY and my surgeon said enough was already going on with doing the RNY that he does not automatically take out the Gall Bladder. I developed painful Gall stones a few months ago and had to go get it taken out. No big deal just a few days off work and a tiny bit of pain good luck!

Hey Jeff - I am 2 weeks out as of today, I had my Gallbladder removed at the same time as my LAP RNY. i dont think you'll notice at all, There is so much going on, and by that i mean, your guts are going to hurt regardless. Its best to do it now than have to re-open you. I think maybe twice i could feel pain from the actual gallbladder as opposed to the RNY (its a deeper more centered pain, if you have gallbladder pain, youll recognize it) but its not a big deal. just keep your finger on that morphine pump :)

i think the only thing youll notice a difference with is the way you digest food. it will be a little easier for you to get diarrhea with your gallbladder out. just take it easy and don't hesitate to tell your nurses and doctors if you hurt. you'll have 6 incisions (like me!) rather than the 4.

It'll be worth it! good luck and keep us up to date!
