It looks as though my surgery may not happen beacuse I still have ulcers. Has this happened to anyone?

Just wanted to say hello. I haven't had an ulcer problem but wanted to suggest searching it out on here.....either by doing a search or posting on the RNY or main boards where you may come across someone. Good luck. They may want you to be on some meds for a few months till the ulcers clear up some. Please let us know what you find out. Thanks.

I know someone on here has had problems with ulcers, but I cannot remember where I read it.  She had an unknown ulcer when she went in for surgery and it ended up causing problems post-op.  If I remember who, I will post it.  It is in your best interest to be as healthy as possible prior to surgery, including dealing with your ulcer.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

hi there! I had an ulcer battle for over a year before I could get approved for surgery. I had *4* peptic ulcers in my stomach and duodenum that was causing my gallbladder to misfire (big mess!!!)

Basically what i did was this:
- got a prescription for Protonix (cuts down acids in your stomach) nexium works well too.
- worked very closely with my personal GI doctor (not my surgeon) to crate a diet that was ulcer friendly. my GI was very holistic and wanted to help me avoid surgery to repair the ulcers so he was very helpful. i can outline the diet for you here:

-every morning i would eat i cup of Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Multibran Cereal (http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Path-Organic-Multibran-13-25-O unce/dp/B001EO5RLI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=grocery&qid=12246080 79&sr=1-3) with almond milk (he recommended soy milk but i am allergic to soy milk) - whole milk is too harsh for certain ulcers

- i cut out all yeast, caffeine, citrus, breads (this was awful), fried foods and NSAIDS. (this was excellent proctice for the RNY as well and also how i managed to lose 30 lbs before surgery)

- I took a flax seed oil supplement every morning (and still do!)

and that's pretty much it!!! Ulcers aren't forever, they can heal. i completely healed my ulcers in less than a year. i had an Endoscopy in september and was told all that was left was scar tissue and then my surgery was scheduled and completed on Oct 1!

the best advice i can give is this... IT SUCKS, but it can happen. find a doctor that will work with you and get you the right meds to sut out that acid and get to work!!! however you have to keep two thigns in mind:

1) which surgery are you considering? I did RNY, which can still allow for ulcers to crop up so i have to be extra careful... forever! but other surgeries (DS i think?) have more leeway with ulcers.
2) Once you have ulcers, they can come back. know that if you do all this work, get them gone, it won't take much to bring them back! make sure you are determined enough to get it done! (and im sure you are!!!!!!)

let us know how it goes!
