I'm on antibiotic and said my goodbyes...

...to my son's 3rd grade class!  The doctor agreed that I should not be doing anymore volunteer work or visits at the school until after I've recovered from my surgery.  The sickness being passed around there the past 2 months...it's enough to kill somebody you'd think!

So, after the dr. couldn't find a thing really wrong with me, and put me on a precautionary antibiotic, I stopped to have my "last lunch" with my little man and spent some time with his class.  Before we dismissed at the end of the day, I told the kids that I would be "gone" for a couple of months and that I may not see them until after Christmas.  Moans, groans, sobs (oh, it's good to be loved!), and then came an exclamation of "WHY?!"  I told them I was going in to have a surgery...nothing scary...just that I'd need some time to heal from it.  More moan, groans, sobs, lol.  They are such a great group of kids.  I'm going to miss them!

This made things seem really REAL, ya know?

Also, one of the teachers spent about an hour talking with me because she had RNY 5 years ago herself!  It was great hearing her story and now I have her support as well.  Life is good!

Now to get over whatever this crud is!!!!!!  I'm glad I went today...thanks again for all of your advice and support!!!!!!

I am so glad you nipped this in the bud now and not before it was too late. Looks like if you stay away from sick people and get over whatever this crud is you will have your surgery at the scheduled time. I would hate for you to go through having to reschedule. I survived it but boy was I disappointed at having another two months to wait. Not fun.

I just wish I knew what this was.  Eyes, ears, nose, throat, chest...all clear.  Slight drainage was all the dr. saw.  My cough drives me batty.  Allergies?  I dunno!  Wondering if I should take Claritin every day for the next month?  I don't see how that could hurt.  Definitely don't want to have to reschedule if I can safely prevent that from happening...my heart hurt for you when that happened, Ann.  Hopefully the combination of anti-biotic, perhaps Claritin, and voluntary semi-isolation will do the trick!

Awww that's such a sweet story about your son's 3rd grade class! They love you!
I hope that these antibiotics do the trick and you are feeling better fast!

P.S. I'm watching ya because hopefully my surgery won't be too long after yours!

Cindy,  I know what you mean.  I'll be watching the November re-birthdays that come just before mine like a hawk!  lol  I hope you get your surgery date very soon.  Where are you in the scheme of things now?

Shaunda, I have all of my appointments made and hopefully the surgeon has sent it all in to the Insurance! So, waiting on Insurance to approve!

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

I'm sorry that you won't be able to work with your son's class anymore. I know what a delight it can be to spend time with the kids and how very proud your son must be to have you there. Can you imagine the delight and amazement that they will have when you show up next year with just a bit less of you. I wonder how many will notice? Some kids really do and others are so fixated on your personality that they don't pay much attention to the wrapping until there is an overwhelming change.

Feel better soon and start making plans for the most incredible ride of your life.
