Thanks Myrtis and yes I do know about eating certain things and chicken is one I still can't eat, don't know about steak and the ham was something that I just wanted and ate it knowing it might make me sick, I know it sounds silly but with my Mom being gone it was something that made me feel like remembering all the family traditions I had with her.

Hi Cindy,

I have to second the comments from Paula aka Shoutjoy. It's most likely that you were having a reaction to the rich, heavy foods that your healing pouch is not ready for yet. Eventually, you are likely to be able to tolerate those foods, but as Paula has said, it's important to try very hard to learn to 'handle' food better while your pouch is in your corner helping you with your choices. Please don't hear the pot calling the kettle black, but do hear the voice of experience. We really do need to find ways to cope with the food issues we have, because while you absolutely will lose the weight during this honeymoon stage, you need to do the 'head' work necessary to help you keep it off the rest of your life. This is not about being a failure, but about learning ... if you learned something and you can apply it, it's not failing... And remember that for most things, learning takes some repetition.

I agree with you Barb and the others and I did learn something from it and thanks to eating the ham and cheeses I'm retaining fluid today and don't feel so great but I'm back on track today with doing my proteins and staying away from all the junk here. As far as losing the weight in the "honeymoon stage" makes me wonder if I'm a slow loser or what because I've only lost like 5 lbs since the first of the month. Well I'm off to meet a friend so I'll check back in later.

Cindy,

You are definitely still in the midst of the honeymoon. Even honeymoons have their bumps in the road and you are just hitting one ... caled a 'stall.' Just do what your Dr and Nutritionist prescribe and you'll do fine.

You are still in the very baby stages with your pouch I know it is hard when you go out of your own *enviroment* last night I went to my best friends house and started woofing down the ham, sweet potato casserole, deviled eggs and then the killer.. a big huge homemade biscuit dipped in Sourwood tree honey from the mountains.. OMG it was sooo good but it made me feel soooooooooooooo bad! somedays I can eat one thing and nothing happen, then the next it makes me sick as a dog. You are not a failure!!!! just try to chew chew chew and stick to pouch friendly foods Best of luck!!

Ahhh... the dreaded food addiction.  We are all food addicts here.  I did not get to weigh 324 pounds because I ate like a bird.  The great thing about RNY is that it does a WONDERFUL job on fixing the physical part of your addictions..  but your head issues are still there.  They don't clip any nerves or cut out any sections of your brain that tell you that you have to eat..  I struggle on a daily basis.  I am sure many of us do.  Our brains still tell us that we NEED food.  We NEED to overeat and indulge.  That is why were needed WLS in the first place.. we had all gotten to a point where our weight was out of control.  We let our addiction rule us and that forced us to a position where we were all digging our own graves with a spoon and fork.  Be faithful to your new lifestyle.   Stand strong.  Do not beat yourself up for a few mistakes..  just chalk them up as a learning experience.  :)  I do hope you have enjoyed Christmas with your family!

Reading this post reminded me of why most of us are here. We have the affliction that is an addiction. Unlike Street drugs or alcohol or tobacco we found the one thing to get an addiction to that is socially cool and wont get you in jail. It is the one addiction you can win prizes for eating gross amounts in competition, cook food for blue ribbons that is so caloric just to smell it adds the pounds, or on the negative side find society shunning you for what you have become. The worst part is that this addiction is a necessary evil. If we don't eat we die, if we eat to much we die faster. Catch 22 or 23 or what ever it should be in the end our problems wind up being one of the biggest challenges we face. Even post surgery the cravings for some things still haunt us as they linger in our senses and appeal to our eyes and noses with flourish and aroma. It is such a different thing to start out and begin to do things again without all the things that we so loved and to have to part with them for protein and veggies and nourishing stuff. Personally I had to have a little talk with myself to tell me that some stuff was just going to have to be put on the shelf and left there. Even this Christmas I found myself measuring with small spoonfuls just so I could taste a few things. My eyes and mouth wanted to delve into the freshly baked pumpkin pie but I knew that sitting for a long time on the throne heaving into the trash can was not my idea of how to spend Christmas. All that being said as we newly developed soon to be thinner people begin to find out what works and what doesn't ask yourself one tiny question. Am I about to eat something that got me where I was prior to surgery? If you answer yes reconsider your decision making for something that may benefit you in the long run. This is not the easy road to health and even though I have my bumps and potholes like all of you do we do find a way to make the journey.
