Sabotaging Thoughts

I think that we all have sabotaging thoughts, it's what we do about them that will make or break us. Sabotaging thought are those thoughts that would allow us to undermine our short or long-term goals. These often happen when we are feeling weak and insecure. One of the things I've learned from working through my 'Beck Diet Solution' workbook is that I can identify sabotaging thoughts and replace them with supportive

Here's an example of a self-distructive thought and alternative:

Sabotaging Thought: It feels uncomfortable and unnatural to withhold drinking with my meals.

Supportive Thought: With practice, I will get used to not drinking with my meals which will allow me to leverage the power of my pouch.

What are some of sabatoging thoughts you have to deal with and how will you manage those thoughts so that you can and will be successful in attaining and maintaining your goals?

I have a lot of these type of thoughts.

Drinking with meals just happens to be one. I do it when we eat out..but I generaly only drink about one inch and take the rest with me. At home I am pretty good.

My major sabotaging thought is not exersising. I know it would help my weightloss but at this point It would help my health and maybe fill in some of the bat wing and skin issues.

So my supportive thought:  If I exercise 4-5 days a week, I will look and feel better. I will feel good about myself and be using the YMCA membership which cost me dearly.

I plan to start this just as soon as my surgen releases me.

Thanks Barb......Remind me to do this all my OH friends

I guess mine would be, "I lost weight at a faster rate before my surgery." I should say,"With this surgery, I am learning a better way of eating and losing weight. My cholesterol is down and I am off of my blood pressure meds."

Thanks for posting this one Barb. It's easy to forget/overlook/dismiss the power of positive self talk. I've used it in other areas of my life and I know it works. This past year has taught me so much about myself. I would have never acknowledged my low self-esteem or self-confidence issues before WLS. I had bought into my own lies and honestly believed them. Things are different now.

I am a new person. This journey is such an amazing transformation. I've found a balance between the old me and the new me - not to wall-flowery & not to ****y (I hope). Every day is a new gift and I intend to enjoy each and every one of them - because I am worth it.
