ok, so i have finished up the last of my pre-surgery requirements.  during my first visit with chapman, he told me he did not want me to lose anymore weight because i was already down to 37 bmi(with comorbities).  had my nut and psych. visits yesterday.  i called this morning to schedule decision visit, but chapman's office will not schedule my decision visit until they have the results from the nut and psych. in their hand.  both professionals told me yesterday that they are going to approve/recommend surgery for me.  my problem is this.  i met with my nurse at work today for my monthly weight check in.  i have lost an additional 3.5 pounds, which puts me a 35.6 bmi!!!  i am so afraid i will not qualify for surgery if i don't hurry up and get in!  never thought i would ever have been horrified to see a weight loss on the scale!  i am not trying to lose weight at this point.  but my appetite has certainly decreased.  i do need the surgery, because eventually, this weight i have lost will come back.....unless i have my "tool".
anyone else been through this terror of waiting and worrying you will lose too much prior to decision visit????

Dee,

I started my process with a BMI of 44.3 (no comorbilities) I had to do a 6 mo Doctor supervised weight management program.  I lost 40 lbs, which got  BMI down to 37.4 I talked to my Surgeon he told me that they put in the approval with the original BMI.  I was approved but at this point I am trying to maintain my weight I don't want to get to my surgery date and them not do the surgery because I have lost to much weight.  (actually I have gained back 5 lbs but maintaining now with a 35 lb weight loss and BMI around 38 something.  I wish you much success on your approval.

Also a side note come check out the Lightweight forum.

Hee Dee, you should be fine.  Dr Chapman will probably submit with the original BMI.  We were all capable of losing tons of weight before surgery.  That's a given!  I was also going to suggest the LightWeights forum.  Great bunch there!

Hi Dee,

Call your Dr's office and ask to speak with their insurance specialist. Generally, they submit your paperwork to insurance with your 'opening' BMI, which is often your higher BMI. Let them know of your concerns and ask for guidance.

My opening BMI was just over 40, but it was down to abou 36 when I had my surgery, so I think I understand your concerns. It turned out just fine for me and I hope it will for you as well.

I was at 37 BMI with Co-Morbs when I was put in for surgery. I had to gain five pounds to hit 40 BMI, or else my insurance would not pay for it. I know that sounds crazy but I went out and ate at McDonalds for a week and Voila!! 5 lbs was there! I was also considered a *lightweight* like you and I know what you are feeling right now. My doctor put in the original BMI of 40 when he put my paperwork in. Of course once the paperwork went in I started dropping back down to 37 BMI. I am now down to 19 BMI and feel great. I wish you the best of luck!!!!
