I had gastric by-pass in Pittsburgh, PA, in January 2006.  I Have been very successful in my weight loss journey; but have found out today that I will be moving to a new job in Boone, NC.  I am looking for recommendations for a 'follow-up' surgeon.

Any input would be helpful.

No suggestion on surgeons (I'm fromm WAY east of there) but Boone is a beautiful area, I think you'll love it there!

Welcome!

Ah, the mountains of NC!!!  That really is God's country and my favorite place to vacation in the summer.  While the rest of the South is suffering under blistering, oppressive heat, the air up in the mountains is cool and crisp.  And the air up the mountains smells so fresh too.  Wildflowers and waterfalls in the spring, beautiful foliage in the fall, snow capped mountains in the winter, and beautifully green in the summer.  The little towns near by like Banner Elk and Blowing Rock are so friendly and full of quaint shops.  The arts abound, both fine arts and folk arts.  And every summer you can enjoy the annual Grandfather Mountain Scottish Highland Games, arguably one of the biggest Scottish Highland games in the US.  If you have any Scottish ancestry, you will get the opportunity to get in touch with your Scottish roots.  You're a lucky lady to be moving to the NC mountains!!!  I'm way over here in eastern NC, but I get over to the mountains whenever I can.

Geez Meredith, you make me want to live there and I hate cold weather and not being near the ocean.  I would hate to get into a debate with you.  I would end up aggreeing and changing sides.

Welcome to the NC board!  I have never been to Boone but I hear lots of great things about it.  Not just from Meredith either!

Welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't recommend a surgeon from that Area but at the top where you can browse bariatric surgeons you may try searching that area and see who is recommended and has alot of feedback from members. Good Luck on your find. Also, Congrats on the move to Boone it's such a beautiful place, I live farther East near the coast but my parents and sometimes me and my family as well visit Boone its wonderful and in the fall when the leaves change it's breathtaking. Hope you enjoy and hope you find a wonderful surgeon to follow up with.

Take Care and Welcome again!

Hi Rose.
I am new to this. tomorrow I have my first appt with the surgeon.  I am using Leland Cook.  He is in Hickory.  About an hour from Boone.  We do not have a bariatic surgeon in Boone.  Dr.  Cook is associated with Frye Regional Medical Ctr. in Hickory.  Hope this helps.  I have lived in Boone for 10 years and wouldn't live anywhere else.
