I am waiting for my ins. approval and it is driving me crazy!!  The insurance has had it in the system since last Thursday.  I know it is a covered procedure...I feel like I am in limbo....Does anyone know how long united healthcare takes?????

thanks for letting me vent.

I have united healthcare and was told by my surgeons office they usually take the whole 30 days, but in my case my info was submited to insurance on June 24 and they approved it on July 4th. I've heard alot of people say it was about 7-10 days, which seems to be true. So good luck and I'm hoping you hear something soon :)

Hi Sue,

I agree, I do think that the waiting was probably even harder than the surgery itself. That said, do not despair. Like you, I had UHC and when I had mine done and my husband had his done more recently, UHC said that contractually they had 30 days to process and provide a determination. While that may be true, we found that they generally seem to process things within about 10 to 14 days. Most of that time, it isn't even being 'evaluated' by the person doing the determination. It's just chugging through their system. Once ours got to the person who was actually doing the determination, we had an answer withing about 24 hours. I hope that helps some.

I look forward to hearing that you have a positive determination and that the surgeon will be scheduling surgery soon.

Hang in there Susan,
The waiting I think is the worst part of it all.
I got really depressed during this time but it did all work out.

I know how you feel about the waiting! I haven't even gotten to insurance approval yet. I had my last preop visit yesterday so my next step will be to get an appt with the surgeon and THEN get insurance approval! I am hoping and praying for my surgery to be mid Sept. I started this journey in Feb. Trying to believe that everything happens when it is meant to happen. God's time not my time! Jackie

Jackie,
I keep saying God is trying to teach me patiences....I am just a slow learner.  I hope your appt goes well.  I know my surgeon visit was a long day.  I met with 3 people before him.  Two different nurses, the surgeon and the ins. dept.  But it was all very exciting.  Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I know the waiting is hard.  I can say I called my insurance company and knew I was approved 4 days before the doctor's office did..
I hope you get some good news very soon!
