Well, I'm not in Missouri, but I know there are some great places online. Have you gone to About.com and checked out their site? I also recommend a great book, The Knitting Goddess by Deborah Bergman. I got a lot of great help from that book, including a review of basic stitches, some awesome patterns, and -- sigh -- a serious addiction to fantastic, beautiful, hand-painted and hand-spun yarns. Watch out for that. It creeps up on you. Finally, check out some of your local yarn shops. Many offer classes, which can be a great support group when you get ambitious.

Hi, Patricia! I know you posted this quite a while ago, but I've just discovered the member interests message boards. Anyway, I'm in Indianapolis, so I can't do much for you from here, but have you thought about buying the CD/ROM to learn from your computer? I've seen them at all kinds of stores like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and even WalMart and Meijer. They're in the yarn sections where the needles and such are. I haven't tried them so I don't know how good they are, but I just thought it might be a suggestion. Also, check with your craft stores and see if they have lessons, or if they could direct you to somewhere that would offer lessons. Crocheting and knitting have helped me alot as a post-op, because I can take a bite of food, then crochet or knit a little, then take another bite and crochet/knit some more...Other wise I tend to eat too fast and end up feeling bad! Take care, and feel free to e-mail me if I can help with anything! Moysa [email protected]

Hi Everyone! I am also learning how to crochet. I can do the basic chain stitch and a little bit the the double crochet stitch (then I get confused). The book I am using and it helps me the most is the "Idiots guide to Knitting and Crocheting" It's the orange & blue books similar to the 'Whatever' for Dummies books. I like it better and it really does explain the stitches in a way this idiot can understand. I like the post someone else had about take a bite to eat, stitch a little, take another bite... that's why I am looking for something to do with my hands so I can't do the constant shovel of food into my mouth. I am still pre-op with about a 3-4 month wait for the surgery, so anything I can do to help learn new habits is great. Just don't expect me to make anything that looks decent yet! LOL One of the unlikely places you might find someone who can teach you is at the local Senior Citizens "day care" or a nursing home. Some of these little ol' ladies can still stitch up a storm! Good luck in your search for a teacher. Maria
