 Hi Sheri,
I know the RNY has better results but I have 50 lbs to lose. I don't qualify for the RNY. Where do you hold your support group meetings? I live in Short Hills. Is there one near me that you know of?
Thanks for reaching out.

I know Dr. N has a great reputation. The band surgery only takes about an hour. It is not a complicated surgery, your intestines are not cut and re-routed, most surgeons are skilled enough to do banding. My advice is to do your homework about banding. I had RNY in '06 and have been a support group leader for 4 years. I have found more weight loss success with people who have had RNY vs. band. It's a personal decision and it depends on your eating habits and making permanent lifestyle changes. I strongly urge you to attend support groups before and after surgery. You are welcome to attend First Saturday Support of Union County...we meet the first Saturday of each month. Email: firstsaturdaysupport@gmail for more information.

If I were going to go for it, I'd use Dr. Lalla out of W. Orange. His prices are the best!

Topic: My Banding today
Just wanted to say Hi, i joined the site a few weeks ago. I had my surgery today, and went with the lap band. Overall i feel much better than i thought i would. Dr Sowemimo who is now at Central Jersey Bariatrics was my surgeon. I started with Dr. Sowemimo before he went to CJB, and i really like him. I felt he was helpful in the process and supportive.

Thanks for all the help you've given me in posting all of your own information, i feel it really helped better educate me over the past few weeks.

No they are not from Florida, I believe Dr. Sowemimo worked out of Centra State.  I believe both came from the Atlantic City area.

I also started with Dr. Washington, unfortunately he retired 2 days before my surgery.  I got to meet Dr. Sowemimo a week before surgery, and then Dr. Adeyeri the day before.  Dr. Sowemimo did my surgery on 12/22 with Dr.  Adeyeri in the operating room too.  I have nothing but GREAT things to say about both surgeons.  So far I have gone for 1 post op appointment and 1 fill and Dr. Sowemimo was my doctor for both.

Maybe see when they have another seminar.  Dr. Washington really did leave us in good hands with both surgeons.
