whether you need a pre op diet to thin your liver depends on your bmi, I do not  have the issue, so not pre op diet for me, just a bowel prep the nite before, same that you did for your colenoscopy,
Nsaid, and blood thinners.  depends on why you take them,  if you take them for a high risk condition,  stopping 2wks early could mean your dead b4 you have surgery from stroke.  your surgeon and who ever has you on the meds need to make that decision.  I m well controlled on my cumidin,  perfect number on the scale and may not stop at all, they will have the clotting agent available in the or, if my pt test i the or warents.
Overlook hospital is the number 1 hospital in the country for treating stroke and brain hemorage. nj flys all their patients there. you will be well cared for in that respect,

Im flying to Omaha for my surgery in 27 more days, because you cant get a ds here, and a better surgeon anywhere, I ve consulted 13 in 7 years.

Topic: RE: Iron Infusions experience...
I am going for labs tomorrow (I wanted to go earlier this week, but I have to fast and forget in the morning and have my coffee!).

In June 09 - ferritin was 27, March 10 it was 13.
In June 09 - hemaglobin was 14.2, March 10 it was 13.

Below is the rest of the iron stats - first column 06/06, 2nd 03/10.

Iron Bind.Cap. (TIBC) (250 - 450) 260 322
UIBC (150 - 375) 178 249
Iron, Serum (35 - 155) 82 73
Iron, Saturation (15 - 55) 32 23

Everything iron related is trending downward; and I have a feeling it's not any better, and probably worse.  I will go tomorrow AM and get the labs drawn and compare as soon as I get results.

Thanks for your help; my PCP is on board for sending me to the hematologist for infusions if need be, so that is a huge relief too!

Hello Jennifer-

I need to get my bloodwork to see what my ferritin level is, and what it was before the infusions.

OK-got it.  The morning before I started my IV treatments of Venofer my ferritin (serum) was 5.
2 weeks ago-after 3 IV treatments it was 85.

The number that my doctor reference's most often is my hemaglobin.
Before treatments my hemaglobin was down to a 7, now it is 11.3.
The low end of "normal" is 11.5, according the the lab that does the bloodwork.

What is your hemaglobin?

Thank you for your comment.

I have every faith that you will be able to fini**** For one thing, you will be very motivated by the people around you, and the tide will help carry you along. For another, I believe, that (like me) you are stronger and more capable than you give yourself credit for. You never know what you can do until you put yourself to the test.

Go into it with the most positive of attitudes. Don't even consider not finishing as an option. Determination is so important, and if the mind believes strongly enough, the body will follow.

And by the way, I have heard amazing things about the BC walk and anyone that has ever done it looks upon it as a life-changing experience. I'm very excited for you, and look forward to hearing about it after you cross the finish line.

Had a great time at the cooking class last night!! Ray and Greg were very entertaining and
informative. The food was great.  I just wish that the dietitian made it.  Can't wait to see everyone for the next class a month from now!!!

Topic: RE: In search of vitamins!
I have used the BA and Building Blocks but they are very expensive and shipping is a pain. I found Trader Joe's chewable work a bit better for me due to cost and shipping. They don't taste bad either. TJ's also has a sub-lingual B-12 that I use in addition to the Chewable Calcium with D, Chewable C and non chewable vitamin D that I get from GNC. I only recently started taking D since that level came back a little bit low on my last set of labs. I eat a ton of beans, beef and green veggies so I don't have an issue with Iron but if your levels are on the lower side you might want to add an iron too.. Andrea U is the best at vitamins, she is on the main board.

Good luck,
Stella

that is so awesome, you made me cry reading it. I am doing the Avon 2 day Breast Cancer walk this weekend and am worried that I wont be able to finish.. I am going to try to remember your 5k run story this weekend when the urge to stop kicks in (lets face it will at some point, the walk is 39.6 miles over the two days).

Thank you very much for sharing.

How low does your ferritin have to go before you get infusions?  Mine is very low (13 in March) and I am going for bloodwork this week to see if it has increased any more.
