I have/had PCOS & had a terrible time getting pregnant until I got to see Dr. Bouzayen @ the IWK - she is an OB/GYN and she is amazing! She started me on metformin even though I wasn't diabetic (yet) and I got pregnant right away (I had my son when I was 38) - healthy & happy baby boy! My bmi was in the high 50's at the time... I would like to have another child & when I met with the team I told them that - I was almost 40 at the time - they told me I would have to wait at least a year but that I could try after that as long as I saw my doc first & that in my case it would be better to have the surgery before trying to get pregnant again (even though I am 'old' lol) since my body would actually be younger after surgery due to my improved health. They told me to be very careful meantime because they thought I would become pregnant easily after i had surgery...
The other symptoms, including excess hair & irregular periods go away! YAY!!! :)
It's hard not to over react when everything is interwoven like it is for you - why not get a referral to Dr. Bouzayen while you're waiting for Dr. Ellsmere if you're tired of putting everything on hold while waiting to hear from them :)
I am so glad to hear that you did finally get the letter to say that the team will meet with you in May privately. I too also attended that meeting with the 50plus people back in August 2010 and I am still waiting to hear for the letter that invites me to meet that team privately, I do understand that it is long time to wait and I must be patience. I will just keeping doing what I am doing and wait.
I am new to this forum and am looking for advice (my friend pointed me here and said you were all great). I was referred back to Dr. Ellsmere's office last year and have yet to be called in for the group information. I emailed Diane back in the fall and she told me I'd have to wait 2 or more years before I would be considered for surgery. She mentioned a new weight loss program her team was in the works of developping. After the new year I read an article Dr. Vallis did with Dalhousie supporting this program. I know he is a well respected psychologist and everyone I've met has said positive things about him.
At this point I'm desperate to try anything as my weight keeps climbing this year, and I'm now at my highest of 280 lbs. Has anyone else heard about this Partners for Healthier Weight program in Halifax? Their website is a little vague..

Hope to here from some one

hi all, just an update on whats happening to me now. Lets see where to begin.lol well in Feb. I had a cataract removed and next month I have to get the other one done. She couldn't believe how quickly my eyesight changed. But i am quite happy with the sight I have now in this eye and will be even happier when the other one is done.
I am back on prednisone and Minocyccline for my skin condition.
I haven't lost anymore blood since Nov. So that is a good thing. So now I am on ferrous sulphate(iron).
I had to have a bone marrow extration done last week in my hip. Let me tell you it HURT. They got the report back and sent it to some one else to check it too. I don't know what that is all about.
Now I am having back spazems alot. LOL I am a wreck. oh well as long as I can still get out of bed and go I am happy.
OK I think that is it for me for now. time for bed.
But keep reading the posts on here and maybe you will find some info. here. Sorry I am not much help but I want to welcome you to the forum. There are meetings you might want to try. One in Halifax and one in Truro. If you are near either of them. Their info is all here in the forum too.
I am sure if they don't know the answers they will find out for you. Enjoy the forum there is LOTS of good info here.
hi,6 months is the average time. I was at the 50 people session on Mar. 1st. 2010 and it was Oct.23th. when I had my visit with "the team" so mine was over the 6 months. Than it was Oct.28th. when I met with Dr. Ellsmere and I was given my operation date for Dec. 7th.with the pre-op date as Nov. 29th. which is where I got stopped by the doc that puts you to sleep in the O. R. (I really have to learn how to spell it.) LOL Long story short I am still waiting to get checked out by the hematologist. Long waiting list for either of the 2 I am on a waiting list for.
I am so ready for this to happen SOON.
sorry I print in large print but it is so much easier to read when it is larger.
I haven't told too many people about it either. I figure when I get it done and start losing I will tell family and close friends than.
I look forward to seeing your progress in the near furture. Hang in there.
I am 31. I have no children. I am on the waiting list for WLS and I have no idea how long its going to be until I get the surgery. My BMI is 50 and I have Pre-Diabetes. I was wondering if any of the women here have PCOS and have gotten pregnant after having the surgery. I have read that fertility is greatly increased after a healthy weight is achieved. I have also read that it is not recomended to get pregnant until 2 years after the surgery so your body has time to adjust to the Vertical Sleeve.
I would also like to know if other nasty symptoms of PCOS go away, such as the excess hair....I don't know if anyone is in the same boat as me but i would like to hear from someone if there is.
I feel like my biological clock is ticking and my time for having a child is decreasing by the day. I am trying to get approved for the sugery in another province. I am just kind of down with all the info I am learning on this fourm. I don't think I will be going to the May 3rd info session. I have no idea where I am on the list. Do you think I am over-reacting??? LOL.

Good luck with your surgery, I'm glad the clinic has put you in as a priority.
Imagine how you'll feel a year or two from now. You'll be a whole new you!
