Topic: RE: Pork rinds?
Oh BOY, do I remember THIS week in my journey! I was so freaking sick of protein shakes and soup I wanted to shoot myself.
I started with eggs, but found (and continue to find) eggs to be too hard on my new tummy (for some reason). I found ground chicken was good to start out with - I used a little peanut sauce in it -YUMMERS!.
I was told I could have sweet potatoes. Small amounts, obviously ... but was told that the nutritional value in white potatoes is next to nil thanks to the way in which potatoes are now grown and sweet pots are really good for you. Thankfully - I LOVE sweet potatoes. I just cut off a small piece (about an inch thick) of a sweet pot and nuke or steam it. Yummers! and no waste (well ... not much waste)
There is honestly such limited space in my pouch, that by the time I eat 2 - 3 oz of protein, there's scarcely room for a bite or two of anything else. The conflict comes in when your mind is telling you that you are really hungry and you look at that teeny little blop of sustanence on your plate and think - yeah, right ... that's gonna satisfy me ... so sometimes you might eat a little too fast (or I have) ... and then you SUFFER!!
Start off slow with eating. I didn't and I suffered. I even started a couple of days early (bad, I know). Oddly, I found the chicken the easiest on my insides. I ate it very slowly. I also liked the imitation crab meat with a little bit of low fat mayo and some pepper... and as time went on ... tuna became a good staple in my diet ... still is my fav lunch (though you must be careful of the mercury in it ... so not too often) ... solid white tuna with a little low fat Hellmans, some dill and pepper ... I eat a few l/f wheat thins OR veggie crackers with it ... yummers!
Good luck ... and don't use the pork rinds ... they are so full of chemicals. Yuck! If you like a little spice, I recommend peanut sauce. You need only the teeniest amount and it is high in protein - with minimal calories. I find I read a lot of 'sauces' at the grocery store and I figure - for the amount I'm going to use in a meal, it's worth a few extra calories to have something really tasty now and then - so I have tried a few bottled sauces. Thai sauces are my fav so far.
Best of luck this week. It really does get easier from here on in.

Topic: RE: heparin shots??
I was given Heparin as part of my "after surgery care". Not sure if I would have necessarily known I was given it - except I asked what they were shooting me full of in the recovery room. (This may be different for me as I was actually out 3 times longer than most due to "equipment malfunction" and because I was out for over 4 hours rather than 1.5, I wound up longer in the recovery room, too.
My suggestion would be to ask the nurses when you have the "pre admission interview". The two I met with were pretty on the ball and had answers to pretty well all my Q's.
The one thing I will tell you is this: The Gastric Sleeve surgery takes less than an hour and a half (in most cases) to do from start to finish. What this means is that the blood does not have the time to "pool" that it does when having a more lengthy proceedure. This (all by itself) reduces your risk of blood clots exponentially. (This was an explanation I was given by one of the OR nurses when I was crying like a little girl, just before they put me out).
It is a risk that you must be aware of and consider, for sure ... but it has a very low instance rate. I think the chances of leakage are higher, if I'm not mistaken ... and from what I've read Dr. Ellsmere hasn't killed anyone yet ... and has had only one leak.
All in all, I would say it's much safer to have done than it is to stay fat. <--- I still stand by that opinion.

Topic: Vitamins!!!
Okay - ladies ... I need some help with getting my vitamins.
I have now tried two kinds of Jameson multi vitamins and another one whose name escapes me just now, but that I bought in the Super Store's health food section. They vary in the timing, but all three make me vomit within 10 - 30 minutes. It seems as soon as the tablet starts to break apart, I am running for a commode.
I don't think I need to point this out, but vomiting is a pretty scary enter prize after having a stitch line replace one whole side of your stomach wall - no?
I have had to go back to chewable kids vitamins (I figure they are better than nothing, but they taste sickening) but I doubt very much they can provide the level of vitamins required to maintain an adult that is eating a fraction of what a "normal" one would ... am I wrong in thinking this?
Has anyone else experienced this?
On a more positive note, I am officially 10.5 lbs away from half of my goal! YAY! I not only got into, but WORE a pair of size 18 jeans yesterday. Hear me, peeps - SIZE 18 JEANS!!! This is from 24 wide STRETCHY pants just 11 short (well ... that is a relative term) weeks ago.
I have to say that after feeling so discouraged for the past week or so, THAT was a nice treat right there!
Any thoughts on the vitamins? Anyone? Anyone?
