Topic: RE: Nursing School???
Hi
I'm also a nursing student & no matter what program you complete, going in to your first job you will get the same pay as a new grad.
I recommend getting the RN, then go for the BSN part time after you are already working and gaing that experience! There are lots of great programs out there for working RN's to get there BSN nights/parttime & even online.
I graduate May 6th!
Best of luck to all of us!

Hey Amanda,
I am new also. I am not sure why you had to be a brunette to write on a nursing board, but if that is what motivated you than great. I was a CNA for years and that IS a nurse. You work hard and care for patients, which is a huge part of nursing. Not to mention you are working on furthering your nursing education. Good luck getting a surgery date, hope it goes smoothly for you. I will be having surgery Aug 26,2004 and am nervous and excited. My son will be two next month. Are you worried about taking care of your baby post op? I sure am!!
Good luck! Look forward to more posts.

Katie,
My understanding (as a nursing student myself) is that it also depends on what area of the country you are in. A travel nurse told me that in DC that you make more as a BSN, but my girlfriend is now a travel and ICU nurse and an ASN and she makes excellent money. I think the real factor in making good money in nursing is experience. If it were me I would take the cheaper and quicker route (well, actually I am) and get my AS and then when I was working and gaining experience continue and get my BSN. You can even do that part on the interenet.

I have also beena nurse for 10years. The pay is the same and really the only difference in the programs is in managment and research classes. If you are planning aon going in to management you will need BSN
Topic: CA Nursing Schools
Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anybody out there knew of any 2yr nursing programs in OC or LA county, CA. I am on the waiting list for the RN program at Cypress College and it is taking forever! Does anyone know of other programs that don't have too long of a wait? Thanks!! ;-

Hi Katie,
I have been in nursing for 10years almost. I have found that it does not make much difference at all on having a bsn/associates degree. I have er experience and work with a nurse that has 3 years experience only in geriatrics with an associates. I have a bsn, but we make exactly the same amount. Hope this helps. Shelly
Topic: RE: Hello all
No offense, but I know medical personel who smoke and it certainly doesn't mean they are unprofessional or have no credibility. That's their life choice. I used to smoke prior to surgery and I am a very good LPN. The choices that people make just because you might not agree with them does not make them any less skilled or dedicated to their job. And over eating....Hello obviously those of us who are here have had or have a problem with over eating it still doesn't make me less of a nurse. Sorry, but I guess I am am missing how medical professionals who smoke or over eat have poor credibility.

Topic: Nursing School???
Hi,
I have heard that RNs with a BS make more money than RNs w/o one. Is this true? Does it matter in the long run? I am trying to get my BSRN, but it feels like it is taking forever since I am taking a semester off for my WLS. I am so blessed for the surgery though--not complaining. Just wondering!
Thanks,
Katie Slaughter

Well Nursing is truely what we do. I live to care for people, but since my surgery and the loss of that extra 102 pounds I am learning to take care of myself..
I worked in ER for many years and now I am the manager of a little community clinic. I love the kids.
I really think my true love is fishing I could retire today and fish for the rest of my life. Some day I will be on a little stream in Alaska with my fly pole and enjoying the clean air and sunshine..
I wish all you good loosing.... and take care of yourself...

Amanda, this is a much slower message board but Welcome. I am an LPN and work at a Miami Hospital. I had Lap RNY 12-15-03 and am very pleased with the results. My recovery was fast and so has the weight loss. I pray for you all the best as you finalize the preparations for surgery. Post your surgery date when you get it! God bless.
