I've been meaning to answer your kind response for well, weeks now and kept forgetting (real comforting when your mom has Alzheimer's) In any case, yeah, we have a DNR on Mom and since I posted in April we have it pretty much confirmed that she has indeed entered the terminal stage. She now sleeps about 1/3 of her "awake time" and the flails -- while infrequent -- are accompanied by an occasional moan ... all consistent with that stage. God bless you for the work you do; it is certainly not emotionally rewarding as Alzheimers patients are limited in the love they return but your karma level has to me max!! Thanks again for taking the time to help and congratulations on making it to the healthy side. {{{HUGS}}}

hey all i have been a CNA for almost 7 yrs now and currently working PRN at the Naval Hosp at Camp Lejeune NC....anyway Normally i dont come here bc it was for nurses but then i changed back to a brunette and thought well i do work in the health field and i do what a RN does so why not??? Well anyway i am finishing my last test tomarrow (pych eval) they will tell me how nutty i am...lol well anyway then i have to wait til my little one is a yr old (Aug 11th) to send in all paperwork to insurance. They seem to think that if you get pregnant that it will all disapear within a year after the child is born... &*()_&#()_#

Mellissa, I'm sorry about your mom. I've worked with Alzheimer's vitims for years and it's really harder on the families than the pt. because the pt's don't remember from one episode to another what's going on, but the family does It does sound like the end stages to me, it also sounds like you've been going through this for a long time. I'm glad to hear you've got assistance with her care. It would be hard for a healthy person to deal with but if you've got health problems of your own you are in quite a bad place...I'm so sorry!! I don't mean to be insensative so PLEASE don't be offended, but have you given any thought to your mom's code status? Meaning CPR or no CPR if her heart should fail? I'm not trying to say you should or should not have it done but you should talk to someone in social services about your options. Perhaps your doctor's office, or the assisted care you are getting for her has a social services dept? Anyway... I know how depressing your situation can be. I am very sorry. If you need to talk feel free to email me! Good luck. Erin

Topic: RE: How soo did you get back to work?
Hi Erin, I work in an ophthalmology clinic and also on my feet allllllllll day. I had lap rny and went back to work 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. I remember being fall down exhausted when i came home that first day back to work. I should have taken more time off but the nurses at ucla told me people go back to work 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. So that is what I did. Those nurses that told me that need to have abdominal surgery and then try going back to work that soon. Be good to yourself and go back when you feel you are ready. Good luck dEbbie

Topic: RE: In serious need of some scrubs, sizes 4x-5x
Kim, I was in a 4x. Just like you I did not want to and tried to avoid buying new scrubs at all. What I did was I bought myself a sewing machine and started taking in my pants and shirts. It has been really cool to see how much material I cut off each time I take them in. Good luck. Debbie

Hi Erin, I work in a family practice clinic on my feet alot and sitting for triage and call backs. I had lap RNY and went back to work in 4 weeks. Could of handled 3 weeks but I had 4 weeks vacation so I used it all. Don't go back too soon because even if you heal well your energy level decreases because of the lack of nutrition. Be sure to take yor vitamins! It took me a couple of months to get my energy level back up to par. A friend of mine had open RNY and did not go back to work for 8 weeks. Give yourself time to recoop. If you can you need to file under FMLA. Good Luck. Denise

Hello all that are on the losing side,If you have any size 4x-5x scrubs that are too big please help me out, as i am trying to avoid buying all new scrubs and then turning around and buying them again once i lose the weight. I would be more than willing to buy them at a reasonable price and pay shipping. So, if you can help me out.

HI!! I work in a Select Hospital-acute long term care ( vents-trachs-wounds ect.) I'm a floor nurse, so I do walk A LOT but my charting ... paperwork...ect I also sit ALOT. I have the option to be on a lifting but I don't think I'm going to have the option of not WORKING for 6-8 weeks! !!! I'm a fast healer ( I was back to work after hysterectomy in three weeks with NO problems.) so I'm wondering... I would like to go back after 3 weeks this time too. Possible? I'm having an open rny which I know is going to be harder than my hysty but... any input? thanks Erin
