Well today was not the best feeling I have ever had!!! I went for pre-opp testing and that went fine and then I had to go for a maintain weight check....well they wanted me to come back on Monday!!!! My surgery is WEDNSDAY!!!!! I gained 2.3 flipping pounds. Mind you I go on liquid diet on Sunday and I live over a hour away one way! UUUGGHHHH!!! I told them that and they said that just keep in mind that we will weight you before surgery and if you gain then your surgery will be cancelled....OK so I would totally get this if I gained 5-10 lbs....but 2.3???? well that is just crazy!!! Not to be crued but I could poop that out......not to mention when you weight what I do, you fluctuate a few lbs. So I am just a LITTLE uptight!!! Will they really cancell over these few lbs.??? Any suggestions??? Jennifer

((OH JENNIFER))) its hard i know. MY surgeon was very strong about me looseing pre op weight. IF i didnt no surgery! AND i had him book mine and if the last few pounds were not off no surgery so i can relate. I just worked hard and achieved the 10 percent he wanted off pre op. ONCE i was post op, i was thankful he had me loose that weight! HANG IN THEIR YOU can do it! lisa

Jennifer, Hun hang in there and do the best you can do, I know all these weight numbers can be crazy I understand why they make ya lose some weight before surgery (helps with the liver and all) but some seem to over due it in my book. My surgeon wanted me not to gain anything prior but he would NOT have cancelled for 5 lbs! All you can do is your best! You do not have that long to hang in there so do what you can and let the rest fall into place. I know that does not offer much right now and I do understand that this has to make ya crazy but please do not drive yourself nuts over this. Your surgery will be here SOOOO soon, and as Lisa said you will be greatful that you lost some weight before surgery. Congrats on getting the pre-op stuff done and you will be a big loser VERY soon. ~hugs~ Debra P

Personally i think it's just an idle threat. I've never heard of anyone on this board saying they went for surgery, and it was cancelled because they gaine a few lbs. In fact they don't weigh a lot of patients the day of surgery (they didnt' weigh me thats for sure). Why do i think it's an idle threat???? Because surgery is big business. Don't forget the doctor is expecting to make about 8 to 10 k that day from your surgery. They have the nurses, and all the other back up people ready to do your surgery, the OR is booked and won't be filled...meaning that if they don't perform your surgery, not only will they not make money...BUT THEY WILL LOSE MONEY. Should you lose weight before surgery..YES...it makes the liver shrink, which makes the surgery easier, also it reduces some comorbities right away..i.e. sleep apena. Anyway don't give up hope....you probably were just retaining water ..and it will all flush out in a day or two.

You are very right....I never looked at it that way!!! I am all for the weight loss for the reasons they are but sometimes people fluctuate especially when you are this big!!! I mean I weight my jeans the other day and they were 3lbs!!! I couldn't believe that! Thanks again your words mean a lot! Jenn
