Hi Friends, I tried tuna fish today...with the most infintessimal amout of light mayo. Three bites and I started having SEVERE pain in my poor lil' post operative pouchy. Scared the bejesus out of me. I felt like I wanted to but I was scared I would rupture the internal sutures so I called the Doc's office. The nurse wasn't available but the receptionist (god bless her) told me that I should go ahead and let loose and that I'd feel better. She told me that this is a period of trial and error and that "purging" would relieve the pain. ....so I did, and she was right! Thank God!!!!!! I have always been afraid to puke, but with a new post operative anatomy, I was petrified. I feel so much better now and know for the next time around (I'm no fool, I know there'll be a next time!) that I should just go ahead an heave ho... A little barfing lesson for a newbie post op... More than you wanted to know?? Thanks for listening... xoxox Amy

Hi Vi, Big hugs back at ya. It is reassuring to know that this phase wont last forever! I feel like a petri dish...you never know what you're going to get when you drop something in.....It feels weird to eat with such fear and trepidation. I guess it's all part of the rewiring of eating habits... xoxo Amy

AMY Hey remember MOISTURE is your friend early on! More mayo may be better and maybe PUREE the tuna next time (I know no time soon do u want tuna) but I used to mix in min chopper making TUNAPATE! so to speak. Sometimes it is nothing more than pouchie being sensitive! An angry and irritated pouch may stay that way for a few days, many recommend going back to liquids for a meal up to a day or to to rest the pouch! Warm liquids such as decaf tea, broth or pureeed/strained soup (watch sugar content in some or adding toomuch milk sugar) but eggdrop or the like may be soothing and healing! Be well! It may never happen again, or it may frequently we are all different. I have NEVER gotten sick not once! Only when I had my stricture did I vomit so we are all different, I know some who 10 yrs out get sick once and a while! Jamie

Hiya Jamie, Yes, you are absolutely right. Moisture seems to be the issue here. The tuna felt very rough and dry. I had some cottage cheese mixed with sf nf yogurt tonight and it did fine. Egg drop soup sounds very very good! I might try that in a few days. Right now I'm just glad that I'm not having pain like I did this afternoon!!!! Thanks for your good ideas! Hugs, Amy

Thanks for the lesson. I hope I don't need to learn it from personal experience. I haven't called because I just got back from being with my sister for her surgery Wed in time to get myself together forThursday pre-op testing, admissions and consult. My surgery is scheduled for 7:30 am Monday. Everything has gone like clockwork: approval, pre-op tests, consult, pre-admissions. Today I ran around paying bills and tying up loose ends. I am not anxious, just quietly excited. My Bypass Support Group has provided me with the knowledge, personal incites and support that have made me comfortable. My only desire is that I wish I had a bypass pal to walk the halls with. My hope is that I will meet one after I wake from surgery and get out there walking. I never know when to call you because you must be so busy with your kids and taking care of yourself that I don't want to disturb you. You can call me anytime, you have my number. I will be home most of the time Saturday and Sunday. Thanks for being my local contact. Sue
