Question for married post ops
We got a babysitter for Saturday! Woohoo... We're doing something, but it's something he likes, not me. But I'll deal with it.
Hubby and I realized awhile back that we need to find something to do that we both like. Why? Because food used to be the focal point of our recreation. It's sad, but true. Going to the buffets killed time and gave us something to do, as well as killing stress and depression short term.
So I was wondering what do you do to spend time with each other? Thanks!

Kristine,
Anything together would be good.
Hubby and I like doing:
Motorcycle rides (if your not into bikes then that is not good
)
Going for a car ride, just seeing what you guys can find.
Walks anywhere you both would like.
Roller skating
Bowling
Out Dancing (line dancing, club dancing, swing...what every you both like)
To the movies
Even working out in the yard together...
I wish you the best hun and please keep us posted on what you both do...

Thank you Debra, I will! Thanks for the tips. I can't picture it, but have always wanted to get into ballroom dancing.
We're going to an Irish fest Saturday, which is what he likes to do. I get bored at them. Since I don't like them, I'm constantly complaining about the cost-lol. Hubby found old pictures on the net of us at one in Monroe from May 2003. I think I was about the weight I am now, but for some reason, I look puffy-lol. I'm on the right.

I first want to congratulate you for having the surgery. I think it's great that you are trying new things to do as a couple. I know it's hard to always find something you both like to do. What we do is set one night aside each week. We take turns picking what we want to do, even if one of us doesn't agree. Atleast we still get out of the house and spend quality time together. Fishing, canoeing, boating, going to the mall, going for a walk, or going to a movie. We might not always agree, but it's time spent together. Any break away from the kids is always nice.
Kristine:
My hubby gained 50# after my surgery (I lost 157#),**DO NOT FEED HUBBY LEFTOVERS HEED MY ADVICE!!!*** so now for over a yr we have been going to the gym together usually 6-7x week, spending 10 hrs week there 6 of it cardio! It is a new passion of ours to be healthy together, we still go out 1-2x month but we are active now vs couch taters! Hiking also is a thing we enjoy in good weather now that he has lost 40# of those 50#!!!
What about volunteering together (animal shelter walking dogs etc, library, senior center, hospital, food pantry, homeless shelter, anything u enjoy etc)...
Taking up a craft? Cards w/ otehr couples? Friday night poker or blackjack rotate houses? Movie night? (W/O the junk food), long rides in the country, antique shopping! Sports in the area? Concerts in summer time? Garage saleing? Gardening outside, home improvements? Landscaping? Museums, art shows, by a pair of bikes to go riding! (a bicycle built for 2 perhaps?), Take turns w/ paper night 1x week or night each one plans an eve out trying new things, massages together at the spa! Take an adult ed class at local highschool, if your into spirituality join a church etc and get active in that. Invovlement in childrens activities such as cub scouts, girl scouts 4-H. Staart a small business on Ebay go shopping for treasures then sell online! Go to Overeaters anonymous together for suppolrt, local wls support groups, ask others what they do!
Be well!

Generally I like to see what's going on around town.
For example Fleet Week is coming up.
I like to check out digital city and see what's doing around town...
Go to manhattan to see a show, or even just pretend we are tourists and walk around to shop and stuff.
BOWLING WITH FRIENDS...
Dancing.
Movies.
another thing that we are learning to do is hang out sepeartely. Like I'll go out with the guys and she'll go out with the girls. And in that case I would go do like paintball and she'd go do like girly movies or something.
Before the surgery i was the same way as you, it was all about food, and buffets??? OMG, EAST BUFFET would put up the closed sign when I pulled into the lot.
Ps. since my surgery, my wife has lost weight too, have you all noticed that with your spouses?? My wife was never fat or chubby in my eyes, but she is now dow to 130lbs where she was like 150lbs before.
I guess having a more active lifestyle and better eating habits has been beneficial for both of us.
Hi Kristine,
We like to work out together. We both joined the YMCA and go together. We are also big fans of Nascar racing. My hubby races at a local track here on Long Island. So every Saturday spend the day at the races.
We also like to go to the movies, bowling or just take a walk around the neighborhood. We do go out to eat a lot with our friends nothing has changed there except for what I can eat. But I do still socialize. Everyone is very supportive of my choice to have the WLS. So they understand that I can only eat certain foods.
God bless...
