Hi my name is Marni Mandel and I just had Gastric Bypass Surgery on Tuesday May 23, 2006. I am 18 and I decided to have weight loss surgery because I have battled my weight since i was 6 years old. Thank god my weight hass never affected me socially and I have always had friends. I just finished my freshman year of college and it was increadible but i had out on about 60 lbs in 1 year. I have whats call PCOS or poly cycstic ovarian syndrome and my body is insulin resistant so no matter what I ate i would gain weight alot of it in very short periods of time. I have 4 days post op my suregon was absolutely amazing i would reccomend hom 1 million times to anyone he really cared about me and took such great care of me. I am in allttle bit of pain but not that bad its mostly gas pains that will eventually with walkng go away. I was just wondering a couple of things. Right now I am on all liquids but my mom is trying to get me to drink stuff with protien. I am very afraid that the protien drinks will hurt my stomach even more then it already hurts and i would rather just drink tea and water and jello and stuff like that when is it really necessary to start protien drinks or is there a liqid form of a vitamin that I can take to get in some protien? Also when will you start feeling back to normal not pains or discomfort and what pain mediaction should I take if liqid morphine made me sick Thanks!!!

Hi Marni, You should really talk to your surgeon about what he/she wants you to be drinking now. A lot of surgeons keep their patients on a clear liquid diet for 1-2 weeks, some don't. You should follow your surgeon's advice about this. Good luck in your recovery and keep us posted on your progress! Amy

I would talk to you surgeon about all of this...I am 12 days post op and I was on protein shakes 2days after surgery and I left the hospital the day after surgery only on tylenol. You should not take any Advil, aspirin, adleve or any anti inflammatories......also make sure your tea in decaf. Did you have lap or open? I had lap and I was felling no pain in about 2 days but I also I have been through 27hrs of labor w/o meds and gave birth to a 9lb baby.....so not to much hurts me...LOL Best of luck....call your surgeon....that is what he is there for!!
