NY Short term disability question

I don't know much about ST disability. i know I got it for my gastric bypass and for my TT both were medically necessary. I am going to have a lower body lift which is elective surgery. Can I get ST disability when it is elective surgery? Is it specific to employer or to the state? Any answers are appreciated.

Micjele L: HI, you can dbl check & ask your PS but mine said no, not medically necessary. I can not imagine NYS paying for that ever! I had LBL w/ breast aug self pay and thigh lipo never applied as told wouldnt cover! Jamie

I checked the New York State Disability website (see link below). It does not say anything about what causes the disability. It looks like it only matters that you are not disabled. http://www.nysifdb.com/ClaimantHome.aspx I collected for 5 weeks when I have my tummy tuck. Joanne
