PCOS anyone?????
hello, i was just diagnosed with pcos and i found out because i had my menstrual cycle for over 5 weeks so my gyn did a vaginal sonogram and told me, i did some research on the internet and i can relate with some symptoms such as hair loss, acne, infertility, irregular periods, unexpected weight gain, large in the mid section. i gained 16lbs in a month and now i am doing a 3 month diet plan with my nutritionist and i only lost 1lb in 3 weeks...........
does having pcos interfere with weight loss?

stephanie, I have PCOS, had it for as long as I can remember. It might be THE MOST DISCOURAGING impediment to weight loss. I have been on Glucophage for at least 10 years for the Insulin aspect, Aldactone for about that long for the excess hair control, which has been controlled, and the birth control pill forever to control the actual cysts on the ovaries. Last GYN exam as it has been for the last 5 years, no cysts whatsoever on the ovaries, so that's good. BUT any birth control pill has been shown to slow if not all together halt weight loss, so combined with the PCOS it's really a losing battle. I did Weigh****chers, stuck to it PERFECTLY and lost 1 pound in my first week and gained in the second week. My last ditch effort before deciding to have WLS was Jenny Craig. I followed it PERFECTLY and in my first week lost half a pound, second week a pound. After a month I had lost 3 pounds when the average non-PCOS person, as with any first week on a diet loses at least 3 pounds in their first week. I was in tears and SO discouraged and upset. I just PRAY that having PCOS will not hinder me losing weight after getting banded....that would just be the worst, so must think positive. I have a GREAT slew of doctors I could refer you to if you need any assistance with the PCOS stuff. :)
