Hello All ~Hugs~
Please if anyone can give me any info or experience on the below problem that a friend is having, I would greatly appreciate it....
My friends Mom called me last night to give me info on how her daughter did in surgery yesterday, she had her RNY lap. All went well but she had scar tissue from her c section and the Dr. said it was a little harder and more chances of internal bleeding. They kept her in ICU, waiting to hear this morning how she is doing.
Now question is this, she was throwing up blood last night and her mother was very concered. Does anyone know of this and what might your experience be? I told her i will ask the board as I know vomiting is common but the blood I was not sure. If anyone can add any info please let me know!
Thanks again
Debra P

Deb,
Sorry to hear of this. Generally speaking every surgery you have will cause adhesions to form in your body which is just part of the natural healing process. Adhesions(scar tissues) can be described like spider webs that attach themselves onto organs/tissue in your body. Usually they do not cause a problem but sometimes they do(like bowel obstructions caused by adhesion wrapping too tight around the bowel). Another problem they can cause is getting in the way of surgery (b/c the surgeon needs to cut through them to do what he/she needs to do) and cutting through them lap. obviously a little harder vs. doing it open.
It just sounds like this surgeon cut up her adhesions(which is a surgery w/in itself) from her previous surgery before he proformed the RNY. B/c he did more slicing and dicing, there that risk of bleeding(just like w/any operation.)
No throwing up blood does not sound normal at all. It sounds like internal bleeding but then again I am not a doctor. It sound like they need to get a Ct-Scan done on her asap!
I wish her nothing but the best and send out my prayers!

Deb,
Of course they dont.
When you are the patient you are the last to know what is going on...with your own body nonetheless.
Keep us posted on her progress, ok?

Hi Deb, first sorry that you have to worry ...Hope it turns out ok.
Vomiting of blood does not seem to be normal, but is she throwing up all blood or is it blood tinged. There are alot of things that could be causing this. IF it is blood being vomited thats not good, but if it is tinged possibly from irritation from dry heaving, or a popped vessel in her nose thats different. If she is inthe ICU i am sure she is in great hands. Hang in there and she will be in my thoughts and prayers.
