Has anyone had or heard of anyone having low liver function after wls? I have received a low (abnormal?) function read for the last two blood tests. PCP had me get more blood work done (hep tests, etc.) and an ultrasound of liver and gallbladder on Wednesday. Any information is appreciated. (*someday I'll have a new photo up. Hey Linda, I have heard of elevated/abnormal liver problems appearing in blood tests after WLS. Apparently it has to do with the extra strain on the liver in keeping up with your bodys rapid weight loss. I dont' see it posted on here a lot but you should go on www.duodenalswitch.com (even though you didn't have the surgery) and look up liver in the search. It's not common, but it does happen. Go through your doctors protocol..and if it's a result of WLS from my understanding goes back to "normal" after a year or so. scott

HEY LINDA... I have seen peole post on this issue i dont seem to have it myself! I guess I would follow what is expected and hope its just from the rapid weightloss. BEING thorough is very important but i wouldnt stress to much ! KEEPING you in my prayers that all tests come back fine and normal. lisa

Hi Linda, I think Scott has the right idea about WLS influencing liver function, and also that you should follow up according to your doc's reccomendations. If you are not symptomatic (jaundiced, pain in the area of your liver, chronic nausea, etc) I wouldn't worry. Our bodies are changing so rapidly, it's amazing that all our values are not completely haywire!! Keep us posted on results from your further tests and YES!!! post a new pic asap!! (I should talk, I still have a pic posted from 50 pounds ago!!) Hugs to you, Amy

Thank you all for your answers. It does help to know that there is probably a good reason related to wls for this particular issue. Linda M
