I am going to get a manicure today (my first) and get my hair done. Last week, I got a pedicure. I'm trying to get in a few "just for me" things before I go next week. God... next week!!! I never thought I'd be saying that! Anyway, am I being selfish? Did anybody do anything zany or new before surgery??? Traci

Traci, Congratulations on the date! You will be pleased with the results. I did nothing special before surgery. I felt it was better to keep things as normal as possible otherwise I would get too excited! Do what makes you feel good! Go for it! Best wishes for a successful and uneventful surgery. Linda M

I wrote goodbye letters to everyone i loved..lol. OK this might not sound zany but if you knew me ..you'd know it was pretty off character for me. I think you kind of go "temporarily insane" just before WLS....it's that whole ...my life is about to change radically but i want to be in a state of denial for as long as possible type thing. WOW Pedicure and manicure before surgery. You're really treating yourself. Don't forget, you cannot have any nail polish on when you go into the hospital. Good luck with everything. Keep us posted

Believe me, I never splurge like that... it was definately pre-surgery insanity. I'm glad I did it, but (duh!) I never thought about the fact that I'll have to take all the polish off. Now I feel stupid having wasted the money. However, for a week my nails will look mahvelous!!!

Hey at least they are good shape too My mother used to do nails and did manicures on men, and of course used clear nail polish. Kristine

I have been having my nails done for over 10 years now and nail polish was not an issue for me ... it was never even mentioned. I had my nails done on schedule the day before my surgery. I had no problem having nail polish on. Check with your hospital before you start taking it off...I think they are all very different! Linda

The reason why most hospital do not want nail polish on surgicial patients is b/c while you are under general anesthesia, a way for them to tell if you are becoming oxygen deprived is b/c your finger/toe nails start to turn blueish. This happen to be during my second surgery right before I went into respiratory arrest. They obviously will have a hard time telling this if your nails are painted. It is better to be safe than sorry!

Not selfish at all...that's great. I went to Disney World My surgeon's office was pensive because everything was so close, but I wasn't cancelling the trip for anything. It all worked out because I didn't have sleep apnea. I got the insurance approval call when we were in NC visiting friends before Florida. Kristine
