Which Surgeon for Lap band?

Hello, I have researched everything there is about the lap band. I am certain that is what I want and will be most successful with in weight loss. My insurance is Aetna and they cover up to 10k, the rest is all me. I have reserached surgeons and have come up the the following 3: Dr. Fielding in NY Dr. Pomp in NY Dr. Abkin/Bertha in NJ I live in NJ and don't mind going to NY. I want the doctor that has the best techniques and results. I am so confused. I have an appointment with Fielding and Pomp. I don't want to waste my 10 k in surgical consults. Any opinons?

Hi! I know Dr. Fielding is very experienced when it comes to the lap-band surgery. He is actually well known around the world for it, do the research and see. He actually has the lapband himself that he got placed seven years ago, so you know he knows exactly how you are feeling. He told me he still feels like the chunky kid and probably always will. He says he struggles everyday making the best choices he can and knows personally and professionally the fight w/M.O doesnt end with getting the surgery itself. I have met him and he is super nice, patient and pretty humble. He is Australian and anyone who knows someone Australian(I had a roommate in college who was and still is a good friend of mine) will tell you they probably have to be the nicest people on the face of the earth and put us americans to shame w/our attitude(esp us NYers!) He really cares about his patients which is very important. I know he goes out to eat w/his patients once a month and calls it "learning to eat w/George." I know if I went w/the lapband I sure has heck would have went w/ him. Good luck with your journey! Tavia

I'd definitely go with Dr Fielding if I lived in the area. From what I've heard he does dinners with his patients to teach them to eat like a bandster. Sounds like fun! Kristine

I had Dr. Geiss in Syosset LI. At the time I had my installed he had done over 1000 lapbands (and that # was a year ago). He and his staff are wonderful. I would highly recommend him. I used Dr. Peter Kwon out of Port Jervis NY. I know that is afar drive but he is great and his staff is so nice and caring. I was concerned about getting the best care too. He is nationally certified and has awards in connection to his lap band surgery.
