Hello guys! It's been a few weeks but I'm still doing great! Surgery was 5/23 and I have yet to have difficutlty with anything, besides beef and eggs, which is very common (makes me nautious). Anyway, I hope you all are doing well and would love your advice, opinions and experiences on some things. 1.) I am almost 5 weeks out and down about 25 lbs. It doesn't seem like much considering what I hear from some of you. I know we are all individuals with different bodies, but again, feel as if this will fail me, the surgery that is. 2.) I ate 1/2 slice pizza with my kids the other night with no problems. Shouldn't this make me sick or just "really full"? I feel really guilty and ashamed that I gave into it for dinner and that I didn't have a yogury or somthing instead. I'm nervous that 1/2 slice pizza I didn't feel "full" on. 3.) nothing has made me dump yet and yes, I ate about 6 m&ms the other day and nothing. In a way, I'm upset that I didn't dump. 4.) At 5 weeks out, were you all still eathing just 3 meals a day plus your protein supplements? Did you snack at all.....? Look forward to hearing from you all, hugs, lisa

HI Lisa. Glad to hear you are doing well. My surgery was a day before yours and I have given up weighing myself every day. The weight loss is slower than I expected about 27 pounds so far. My clothes are all too big and I feel and look thinner but the scale just seems like it should read less. I have started my aerobic tapes last week, hoping to get my metabolism up again and lose more. My diabetes is under control without medication now and that was the real reason for this surgery. I have to keep reminded myself that this takes time and not to measure my "success" by how others have lost. I have yet to try pizza and was dying for it but never got around to getting some. Some days I get full really quickly depending on what I eat. But there are days that I dont feel full or satisfied with what I am eating and then feel quilty for wanting (and eating) more . I do snack in between meals sometimes, but have been trying to drink Fruit 2-O or have sugar free Jello instead of eating. Good luck with your progress !---Suzette--

Hi Lisa, glad to hear you are doing well... Lets see...first lets start with the weight loss, 5 weeks/25 pounds..were you ever able to loose that much in such little time? That is a great acomplishment so just keep it up. Pizza....yummy When it comes to pizza it all depends on how thick the crust is..if its a thin crust i can of course eat more....Dont sweat it, pizza is not that bad and if you have it once in a while and not all the time it should be fine, it has been for me. Now the M&Ms this is a different story. I have not touched candy at all since my surgery. I treat it as if i will dump no matter what {even though i have no clue} Its stepping into dangerous territory eating candy espically so early on, my best advice to that is STAY AWAY... I from the very beginning broke down my eating into 3 meals a day sometimes 4 smaller ones and a snack in the am , one in the afternoon and one at night. These are not huge snack, maybe strawberries or watermelon or popcorn...If i am hungry i eat, only now i choose healthy snacks over junk. Keep up the good work. ANd keep us updated. LisaMarie

CONGRATULATIONS LISA! 25 lbs is fine. AND at your point your going to step into the first normal plataue or stall. SO stay calm and stick to the rules of eating. ALWAYS eat your protein first...maybe some veggie and if room a mouthful of your carb food. I always kept my carbs down under 30. MY protein up and over 75. and drank alot thru my day. I always felt since early out i had a big appetite and ate more then others...but i was looseing nicely so i never worried to much about it. I am another person who has not tried candy. I did finally have my first cookie after 1 year out...HONESTLY, eating one starts all the triggers for more and more of that stuff so i will never have more and stick to HEALTHY snacks that give me a good source of protein, or fruits. I try to only snack on popcorn and pretzels for chips or a baked variety but again these are only now that i am near my surgeons goal weight. REMEMBER : 40 percent of bypass patients do not dump! 60 doooo... knowing those odds i didnt want to know that i didnt dump or i would snack on wrong things...so i never tested the waters till 1 year out. I also have small kids and feared not being well for a few hours to tend them so that kept me on track. I wouldnt test your waters to much cause one day things agree and another they dont! SO keep the mind set of SUGAR free living! hugzzzzzzzzzzzz lisa

Lisa, Hello hun ~Hugs~ Hey 25 lbs is really great hun and congrats on that! As long as you are moving down that is all good. we did not get heavy over night so we are not going to lose it that quick as well. Hang in there hun, it is moving down the scale so that is all good. Just make sure you are eating enough so your body does not go into starvation mode because then the weight loss can slow down. That feeling of failure will stay with you for a while, just work with it.....You will do THIS!!! What I did with the pizza was I would eat the cheese and toppings, leaving the bread but now that I am over 1 year out I would try the slice, as a treat it would be fine to have but just be careful with the bread and all. Well as for the "6" M&M's.......my phyc says if your body is craving them, then eat them....it is only 6, before we would have eaten the whole bag!!!! So since I have adopted that way it seems my cravings have calmed down. I was acting on the thought of I can NOT have it so I WANT it but once I give myself the ok to try those things when my body is craving them I am ok and do not really want them as much. I hope that makes sense...I act like I will dump on any more then 1 piece of candy if wanted so I don't pu**** Just be careful hun, please it is a fine line between trying some and eating the whole bag..... I eat my 3 meals and 2 snacks, I try to eat something about every 2 hrs so I do not get all that hungry. early on it was the 1 shakes and carb control yogurt at the snack times. I wish you all the best hun ~hugs~ Debra P
