I am waiting approval for Lap Band surgery, no one mentioned that I need to liquid diet before surgery.Right now surgery is set for Aug. 14th pending approval.I spoke to the nutritionist today for the evaluation and she told me all about the diet post surgery and only said to start using some of the guidelines now, like chew 20 times, eat slow, drink slow, avoid high fat foods etc. When did you get told about when to start a liquid diet pre-surgery? Thanks to all, Tina

Hi Tina You should have already been told about the presurgery diet. Every surgeon has different requirements. Ours was 2 days liquid prior to surgery. Talk to them and find out because your system has to be cleaned out for surgery. Our surgeon have a preop surgery clas that you go to 2 weeks before surgery. Make sure you find out cause you don't want any problems the day of surgery. Marie

Hi Tina, First of all, congrats on getting you surgery date--that is wonderful. I was told during my first interview with the surgeon that I would be required to go on a liquid diet for fourteen days prior to surgery--the reason was given that in order to reduce the size of the liver(which could have obstructed use of the laproscopic instruments), would need to make my surgery go much more smoothly. I didn't want the doctor to have to open me up --so I was faithful and I stayed on the strictly liquid diet for the two week period--after surgery --I couldn't and didn't want to eat very much--so the second fourteen days of liquids wasn't at all difficult ( oh--after the third day on liquids --I lost the hunger pangs--I did it! My friends who had the surgery did it too--you can do it)--It isn't as impossible as it sounds! be blessed, MarianS.C. 242.4/157.8/goal 125-130???

Hi Tina, I was told about the Pre-surgery liquid diet with during my consult with my surgeon and then my nutrionist reiterated it when I met with her. Every surgeons office is different, my girlfriends doctor didn't tell her until she was approved and her surgery was a week later.
