I rediscovered this website this morning and have been reading through some of the forums. I am excited about finding a NY forum and have been reading some of the postings today. My name is Sue, I am 46 (will be 47 next month) and had my surgery on April 25th. Initially I didn't have any problems until about the 4th or 5th week, where I started having problems with vomiting. I was in the ER 3 times in June and the beginning of July because it caused dehydration to set in so quickly. My second visit to the ER (I was admitted each time for 3 - 4 days), I had an endoscopy with dilation which helped, but I still had the vomiting problem. I have two teenage boys and as soon as they heard the sound of me wretching, they were jump to bring me a bowl! It's become instinctual now. I still have intermittent nausea, dry heaves, stomach and back pain, but I hope it will all disipate in time. I have a slew of meds to help me with everything too. Because of my issues, I'm only at the soft mushy menu, but by next month should be back on track. I hope I can learn from other people's experiences, too. So it's hasn't been a totally smooth ride for me, but on the plus (or minus) side, I've lost 66 lbs since my surgery. Last year, the heat from the summer was brutal. This year the weight loss makes it a bit more bearable. Enjoy the weekend! 8-)

HI Susan, Nice to meet you. I am sorry you are having some troubles. I had trouble eating many solid foods until about a month ago, and I will be a year out in Aug! It is just lateley that solid food does not make me vomit. I think part of the reason for me was that I was not chewing my food well enough. Now, I am doing better. Bread, pasta, and rice are still not great for me though. But, since they are foods I was addicted to preop, I feel rather happy that they don't really agree with me anymore. You are doing FANTASTIC with your weight loss. Congratulations. Hope to see you here posting often. S

Thanks for your welcome! It will be interesting for me to see what I can and can't tolerate, but for now, it's mainly soup and soggy cereal. S

Hi Sue, Sorry to hear you've been having such probems, but WOW on the weight loss. I hope you are able to get back on target soon and that you can resume "normal" eating. Great that you have your sons around and that they are supportive and know when you need a bowl! Good luck and welcome to the NY board - it's a great place to meet people and share our stories. Hugs - Robin

Thanks Robin, Probably the worst thing for me was that due to my issues, I missed my older son's high school graduation. I was in the hospital being scoped that day. My husband and I had discussed with the GI dr whether he would let me leave, but because I'd been through so much, he told me that he could only do what was best for me. We picked a dear friend to stand in for me and I made sure everyone took pictures for me. But it was (and still is) very hard knowing I missed it. THanks for your welcome! This looks like such a great site! Sue
