cough

I have this agonizing cough and it doesn't want to go away! I have surgery on monday and I really don't want this cough. I feel fine though and I don't think I have anything but I really want to get rid of it. I have had this cough for a couple of weeks and my pcp said to take Mucinex and that doesn't touch it. I'm afraid they will cancel my surgery and it will take another couple of weeks before I can have surgery. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do or if theres anthing I can take? Please help asap

YOU BETTER CALL YOUR SURGEON REGARDING THIS COUGH......... Not a good thing right before surgery. Any infection can be dangerous under anestesia. Don't take a chance. have you had your pre-op blood work yet though? Seriously, it may be nothing. It may just be allergies. But don't take that chance. Forget your PCP. He is not operating on you. Your surgeon is. Call him in the AM and tell them whats going on. Please let us know.......... Good Luck.........Marie

Very important to let the surgeon know. You are at high risk for pneumonia and other complications following surgery you dont want to put yourself at risk going in there compromised. You want to be your healthiest going in so your recovery will go smooth. Good luck, i had a cold two weeks before surgery and got over it a few days prior. I know the anxiety but better to be safe. You really don't want to be coughing while you are trying to let your inscisions heal, either. I had the same problem before my surgery--I was very insistent about it and got prescriptions for about three different things, and lo and behold, I was OK by surgery day. Talk to your surgeon today and tell him the things your pcp has suggested aren't working, and you are worried. Good luck!

ZICAM ZICAM ZICAM It is a cough spray that helps! I had a horrible sinus cough last week (started monday) and by this weekend I was doing SO MUCH BETTER. I was taking it religously. It is $10.00 for a little bottle. But SO WORTH IT! Good Luck and I hope your cough goes away before surgery. Also, please call your surgeon's office. Take Care and Best Wishes! Tiff
