My family is very much against surgery, but I am trying to stay strong because it is only 3 days away! I am on this site multiple times a day reading all the success stories, and this site is possibly the only thing that has kept my decision in place. My family recently said that they would pay for me to go to Durahm NC for a month, where many over weight people go to begin loosing unwanted weight. Has anyone had the experience of going there? Does anyone think that it might be a good jump start to getting back into the dieting mode and find success that way without the surgery? It just keeps going throught my head. Thanks! ~Kaitlyn~

Hi Kaitllin You have to do whats best for you and forget about your family. If you are having the surgery and you've gone this far, then don't give that up. In my honest opinion, I think you would regret it. If your famiky cared enough, they would support you through your decision. Going througha weight loss program without the surgery is difficult, frustrating and time consuming and can also cause youto re-gain the weight back faster and more. People will throw things at you and cause a lot of confusion on your head. Don't listen to them. Listen to your gut instinct. If you've gone this far, then its meant to be. Trust me. I've heard a lot about your doctor. He is a great surgeon. Good luck and keep us posted. Marie Edie

Hi Kaitlyn , I am no expert--but I have been through all the pre-op exams and tests--so I know that you have been through alot to get to three days before surgery! Gosh, you went through all those test just to be turned away for another weight loss program??--Just a question--how many other weight loss programs have you gone through--I know that I tried them all! And NO--this is NOT a quick fix--and it isn't easy either--THIS IS THE HARDEST THING THAT YOU WILL EVER DO!!!! But if you do what your surgeon tells you to do--it will be the last time that you will see that weight! You must make up your mind--then do what is best for you!! Your family is worried--and I understand their fears--major surgery --IS MAJOR SURGERY! But Living a happy life --feeling healthy is LIVING A HAPPY LIFE AND FEELING HEALTHY! You must decide--and if you need to stay strong--then I am with you--and so are hundreds of others who would tell you that they would do it again in a New York Minute! Here's a prayer for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery!!! So God Bless you and Keep you watch over you! MarianS.C. 242.4/157.4.goal 125-130???

Kaitlyn~ Do what is right for you! Although having support is helpful, YOU and only YOU have to live your life. Diets fail 99% of the time, stats tell us 95% of those Morbidly Obese that loses 10% of their excess wt will regain that wt w/in a short time! *and usually MORE! This is how we get MO in the first place dieting! WLS is the ONLY method currenbtly that has a success rate more like 90% who lose >50% excess and maintain for 5, 10, 15+ yrs! No lying w/ that data! Your family may be scared for you, but if you have made an educated and informed decision then what is right for you isall that matters. Once the surgery is over they will probably come around! Be well, wishing u inner peace w/ all of this! And u know this is the hardest thing u will ever do! BUT it is so worth it!
