I've Never Dumped Before But I Seem To Be Having A Problem....

For about the past 4 days I've been getting nauseous on an empty stomach. I'm not sure what's going on. I start to gag and feel like I need to vomit, but since my stomach is empty, there's nothing to come up. Has this ever happened to any of you before? It's strange, I'm 2 1/2 years out and this is the first time I've ever really had problem. I know the first thing one of you is going to say is call my doctor. I did that already. Just waiting for the call back. Joanne

Oh I know how that feels! Do you feel just nausea and dry heaving or do you have pains somewhere? I hope its nothing. Call me at home and let me know what he says, ok? Feel better you!

Joanne: I wonder if you could have an ulcer? *Nausea and pain on EMPTY stomach is quite common!* or a stricture somewhere? (causing a blockage farther down or at old tummy causing backup of acid into old distal *unused* tummy?) You are correct 2 check w/ your WL Surgeon. May need a Uper GI scope or he may RX an H2 blocker (such as pepcid or zantac) or PPI (such as protonix, prilosec, nexium, prevacid, aciphex etc) med...Doesn't sound like dumping at all to me?. Do you consume gastric irritants frequently? (Caffeine, carbonation, alcohol, spicy foods, certain meds such as NSAIDS *like motrin, naprosyn?*, are you under a lot of stress? are you a smoker?)...Does eating make it better tenporarily or worse? Of course could be nothing much also! Keep us posted ok! HEY JOANNE, so many possiblities... I know here last week a nasaus type stomach virus passed thru here... for my hubby, son and daughter. WHEN it hit me though i had throwing up....but in a way the blessing thats how they found my ulcer. I will agree pain on an empty stomach is an ulcer I just didnt know this and went undiagnosed for a long time. THEN learned to never let the pouch go empty for to may hours! HOPE all is fine and keep us posted.

I've been playing phone tag with the doctor's office for 3 days. The pain and nausia is only when my stomach is empty. It feels much better when I eat something. Yes I drink coffee, smoked up until last Friday and have definitely been under alot of stress for the past several months. It never really occurred to me that I could have an ulcer, but not that you ladies mention it, I guess it's definite possibility. I have an appointment next Wed. with my surgeon, but I'm thinking cancelling that and making an appointment with my gastroenterologist. Thanks for the advice and suggestions. It helps. Joanne

Joanne Will keep u in my thoughts and prayers. But the empty tummy hurting and full tummy feeling better that is what we see commonly w/ an ulcer! Glad u quit smoking for so many reasons maybe cut caffeine out as much as possible to see if that lessens things! Keep us abreast ok! PS gum chewing may also aggrevate, not ure if you do that? *I voluntarily admit I do!* Jamie~

I have an appt. to see my surgeon and gastroenterologist on Wed. In the meantime the surgeon told me to try chewing on some Tums and see if that helps. I hope so because this pain and nausea really stinks. Joanne
