MARYELLEN I have friends and family saying same thing you dont need surgery blah blah blah ok surgery has its risk but so does carrying all this extra weight I can drop dead from the xtra weight I want to feel good about myself and to be healthy! So do what Maryellen wants dont try to please everyone else.....your the one in your body you know how you feel oh and good luck you will be fine

Maryellen: Many people feel as u describe preop. Remember thisis YOUR decision you can change it up to the minute they are to wheel you to the OR! People are ignoirant, scared, jealous or trulyjust uninformed....IF you have made an educated and informed decision that this is right for you, then the inner peace that can bring shouldget you thru the preop-jitters, BUT if the lingering self doubt grows, perhaps tis is NOT the right ecision now. You are in control of that answer. I believe telling people isn't wrong but in fact can strengthen our resolve, for if we have done all the research we need to be sure then we should be able to ally our fears and others naysaying with cold hard facts....The reality is being Moribidly obese has risks that ONLY you live with and truly feel....the data doesnt lie MO people will not lose wt and maintain that w/o wls (or the likelyhood isless than 1%) not great odds, the odds are you will become MORE obese w/ future diet attmps sadly. So thank people for their 'concern' if you will and if you feel this is right say it. "Thank you for your conern, I have made this decision and am going forward", I think that gives youa GREAT opportunity to self soothe and really let it sink in that WLS is the answer. Look within your self not outwardly, it is what is within your body/mind/spirit that wwillgive u strength and peace that this is right, and again if it isn't that won't come from others OPINIONS it will come from within you. If this is the time for you, YOU WILL Know! A massage is great as is any form of relaxation (meditation, deep breathing, guided imagry, exercise). I asked people to support me and NOT my decision also knowing they DIDNT HAVE TO AGREE w/ my decision. My true caring friends did that, the others well i really dont think they cared about me if they couldnt do that! Jouornal your feelings for some further self discovery! No theyusually want no nail polish or acrylics, they need fingers for measurement of oxygen status, maybe best to wait to after! HUGS! I believe in you that you'll find inner peace and the answer that is right for you (maybe just not for everyone else!) (((((((((((HUG))))))))) just remember this is for you and what you feel you need and whats best. I didnt tell many people before i had the surgery cause I didnt want to hear the negative. I kept it very private aside from the circle of friends at support groups and my immedeate family. PEOPLE can be cruel. YOUR in great hands with your surgeon and all will be fine. HUGzzzzzzzzzzz

Good luck on your surgery! You are almost there! As for me i am only at the beginning stage. I too have been getting the" your not that fat" statement. I have a co worker that had the surgery that also said i was not heavy enough and that i was not 100 pounds overweight. My response was " Oh Yeah?" But i know in my mind that this is what i need so i am just ignoring all of the negatives. Again good luck on the surgery Tim

Hang i there its all going to be worth it.....I told lots of people and got all the good comments and bad comments......To tell you the truth I dont care what people think about me having this surgery. They are not living in my shoes. This decision was for me and my family and thats it.....The rest can go and well i wont go there but you know what i mean....Stay positive, you have an excellent surgeon, you are educated on the surgery and you have ALL OF US! You are not supposed to have polish on nails for surgery because it interfers with the machines that monitor your oxygen levels and stuff...Im so excited for you ......LisaMarie
