DISCLAIMER: I have absolutely no financial, familial or social investment in the plays I am about to talk about. Last night I went to a preview performance of MARTIN SHORT'S Broadway review & musical: "FAME BECOMES ME" and it is FANTASTIC! Strictly speaking, it is not a one-man show as he is backed up by 2 guys & 3 gals who are absolutely phenomenal singing actors. One of them can also tapdance up a storm. It's been a long time since a show had me laughing out loud over and over, but this one sure did. This one-act show runs :105 min. WITHOUT INTERMISSION so plan your bladder needs accordingly... You can see video clips online. Once the reviews come in tix will go quickly. I also saw "BRIDGE & TUNNEL" written by & starring SARAH JONES whom I have absolutely no recolection of seeing or hearing about before her TONY AWARD WINNING DEBUT IN THIS; but she and her one-woman, one act show are also PHENOMENAL!! clap: SEE HER NOW BEFORE THE SHOW FINALLY CLOSES AUGUST 13TH. In 90 min. and by only changing a jacket or adding a scarf or pair of eyeglasses, she shape shifts intgo about 15 different characters, men and women, young & old, black, white, Latina, Russian Jew, Pakistani, etc. etc. The humor is pure NYC immigrant observations. American Express is running special prices on their Broadway website. Don't deprive yourselves to see this amazing actress/writer. She did win A TONY AWARD for her performance. Gotta plane to catch! PS I was born and raised on Manhattan's Upper Westside. Going to the theater was my first form of worship. Honest. Was not giv en any formal religious training. Dad took us to see Cecil B. DeMille's movie, "The 10 Commandments" when I was in elementary school & we saw the ORIGINAL "GODSPELL" in a little theater on Broadway in the upper 70'[s - walking distance from The ANSONIA Hotel, on Broadway & 74th St. - where I spent the first formative 10 years of my before moving way over to 17 West 71 St. If you've seen the movie "SINGLE WHITE FEMALE" you've seen the Ansonia Hotel. spooky place. So I don't turn into a fawning cheerleader over any old show. We still go to lots of theater in Atlanta, where I've lived since 1981. But New York - well, that's the GOLD standard, eh? Lauralyn
