HELP!...well, my Dr. is Dr. Garber....great Dr. I am getting better each day but still in need of pain meds like every 6 hours. I have had ALOT of gas and it is getting released little by little I have heard of people recovering quickly.. I don't feel that yet. It gets better each day, but I don't see myself getting rid of this pain. Thursday I am getting my drains out. Maybe I will have less pain then. Has anyone had pain and been on pain meds this long??? (almost a week post op). Also WHAT DID YOU DO FOR GAS???? They say walk...I do that when I can, and I take GasX every so often. Anything else???? Barbara

Barbara, It takes time hun and everyone heals at different rates...I was on the pain meds for about 1 week and then I used them a lot less, they started to make me sick so I stopped them and went to Tylenol. Barbara, where you at Mercy on Tuesday? This is Erika. I think I was in the bed and room next to you. I hope it's you!!! Laying flat on my bed helped me with the gas. It kind of spread everything out. To make you feel better my drains are also coming out on Thurs. *Dr Garber is my Dr.* and I am still taking the percacet every 6 hours as well. The gas-x is so so. I don't think it works for me as well as I thought it would. Anyway, i hope it is the same Barbara I was with. I know we will get through this. And if this isn't the same Barbara, I KNOW WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS!!! God Bless, Erika

Hey! Yes I was at Mercy on Tuesday....I was in room next to yours. We were the only Bypass patients I think for those days. Erika..I did not know it would take this long to get rid of pain. The gas is mostly gone. THe pain I have is in my left side. The drain on the left is oozing and smelly and Dr. Hollover said it was normal and that the pain was normal. They called in an antibiotic for me to make me feel better. My appointment on Thursday to get out the drains is 12:30...what is yours??? My stomach is doing good otherwise. I can have all mushy foods and drinking protein ....so that is good. How are you doing with food? You know, I know alot of people who have had this surgery from different doctors and they never went home with drains or anything....I was wondering why dr. garber does it different. I have nursing services come...she has been here twice and will come once more and she makes sure I am doing ok. I just want to be up and around and out!! I am going stir crazy!!!!!!! oh PS....I ran out of percaset and the Dr. Called me in Vicodin. So now I take those. Anyway, let me know how you are doing and how your drains are...just curious. God Bless and talk to you soon my WLS buddy!! LOL Barbara S.

YAY!!! I am so glad it is you!!!! It is Wednesday, so we are out over a week and just today I feel hardly any pain. The gas is mostly gone. I am taking the percaset every once in a while, especially at night. I am running low and want to make sure that I have enough for Thursday. (I am dreading the drain being taken out. I wish they did it in the hospital) I will be there at 11:45 for my drain. We will probably run into each other!!! As for the drain. The one on the left sticking out is oozing a lot, but the at home nurse said that that is okay. The color is a yellowish/pink so she said not to worry about it. The other drain did smell A LOT. It was so gross. GROSS!!!! Also the color was changing to a dark gross red. I called Dr. Garber and he put me on Levaquin. That took care of the smell and the color and now it is pink/yellow in color. My stomach otherwise is doing just fine, like you said. I am eating all of the mushy foods and the protein suppliments. I am having such a hard time getting all the protein down. I just don't want to eat all of the time. Do you have the same problem? Well is that really a problem, not wanting to eat all of the time!?!?! LOL I am finally feeling good enough to get out so maybe this afternoon. I hope your pain goes away. dr. Garber said 7-10 days and we should be back to normal. We're at day 8 so maybe it will be better. Email me anytime!!! Hopefully I will see you tomorrow. God Bless you and prayers are being sent your way for the pain. Love, Erika

hI Barbara, I also am recently out of surgery RNY 7/31. My Dr did not give me drain tubes, but I am still very uncomfortable as well. However, I had my galdbladder removed and a hernia repair, so I'm assuming this is why I am still uncomfortable. Did you have anything else removed? Also, the gas is coming out but very slowly, I wish I could tell you the secret if there is one you hear of, please share! LOL To top it off, I have developed a nasty yeast infection and feel completely out of breath all day today. This too will pass, patience, persistence and perserverence is what I'm being told.....so good luck to you and your recovery. Keep in touch MaryelleN
