Where to Stay in New York?

Hi Everyone! I'm from Toronto, ON CANADA. I've gotten my approval for WLS to be done by Dr. Elliott Goodman of New York, NY. I'm wondering if anyone in the area knows of any place to stay that isn't outrageously expensive. I'd prefer to be close to the hospital, which I believe is in the Lower East Side at 1st and 16th Ave. Any help you can provide is appreciated. Good luck to all.

Hi Kristine NYC is very expensive. No matter where you stay, you are going to pay through the roof. However, if you don't stay in the city close by, you will have to get a hotel, rental car and pay for parking inthe city. And believe me, it aint cheap so the choice of staying int he city may be your cheapest bet. Do you know anyone here? Maybe you can place a post on the board if there are any weight loss patients (and there are many) that might live in the city, and have room for you to stay. You would be with someone who had the surgery already and they would be of help to you and you can give them a little money. Try it. You never know what shows up. Marie Edie

Thanks Marie for that advice. If it were just me, I'd gladly look for a friend in the city to stay with. My mom wants to come with me to make sure all goes okay. If there is anyone in the city who's willing to put me and my mother up...we'll gladly put you money for the courtesy. I hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Christine. First off congrats and I wish you the best on everything. I dont know what your budget is and what kind of hotel you are willing to stay in, but the Holiday Inn is a good choice for something very decent. I stood in a Holiday Inn once at 440 West 57th Street. Although on the West Side, close to 6 subway lines. Subways will take you just about anywhere in NY and it shouldnt be too long a ride to where you need to go, you can even cab it depending on your budget. As far as prices, yes NYC is expensive, especially when it comes to hotels. Anything that is very inexpensive will most likely be somewhere that I wouldnt let my enemies stay in, lol. Holiday Inn is probably the cheapest as far as something in the city that is also very decent, and yet it is listed now at about $255.00 a night for double occupancy. I think it depends on when you go, and maybe if you call they can quote you a cheaper price. I stood there for one night a couple of years ago in the month of January and they quoted me a price a little cheaper than online. I had to be sure to mention that I was quoted price over phone when I got there. With taxes, total price came to about $161.00 for one night. I thought that was a little too much, but it is manhattan, and it really was best price for something of at least some pretty good quality, nothing luxurious, but again, very very decent and very close to all the good stuff there is to do in the city. Well I dont know your budget, and I really dont know much about hotels, but I share what I know and I hope it helps. Would have you stay with me, but I dont live alone. Good luck and take care. Hey There Christine, CONGRATS ON GETTING APPROVED! Since I did not know the exact dates you were planning your trip to NYC, I entered a random date in AUG at the following site: www.sidestep.com --->then clicked "Hotels" The range of prices I received for 1 to 5 star hotels is: as low as $169/nt, to as much as $522/nt (this is all without selecting room type, or any of the add-ins). Hopefully, with more precise information, you may find better results. Good Luck lady! PS - you may also want to call the Student Housing of a local college near your hospital for available dormitory space (usually they'll have "doubles" available - which means there'll be space for your mom as well. ---> not sure if this is something you're looking into. \(^_^)/ susie

You should call the hospital because they sometimes have deals for special rates at certain hotels close to them. Your doctors office may be able to give you info too. Sometimes the hospitals also have apartments that they rent.... You should definately give them a call... Good Luck with your surgery and travel.... Lori

Hi Christine, I was just in NYC and we stayed in a nice town called Tarrytown it is about 30 minutes from the city. And you can take a train right into Grand Central Station for $14 round trip. We stayed at a Marriott for $99 a night. God Bless you on your new start! Kathleen
