"High Risk"
Melvina,
I am a bit confused at your surgeons comments about doing the Lap-Band instead of the full RNY because it is safer regarding blood clots???? The safety issue is NOT with the type of surgery it is with the surgery itself and the anesthesia. You are undergoing the SAME incisions and anesthesia no matter what procedure you have. I would certainly call another surgeon and get a second opinion especially considering the Hematologist cleared you. Things just do not add up to me?????
Hugs...

Maybe take some time to sit w/ the news, feel your emotions. Think about the time you have invested and reconsider options (seeking 2nd opinion, or re-researching lapband) afterall the goal is to get off the table alive to be healthier, it is a + thing there are choices and although the band may not be your 1st choice you do have options. Will send u hugs of support in this challenging time. You can give up but it seems you have a goal of health the band may give u that. I wish u well.
HUGS

No matter how you feel right now just remember that you are still here and alive. A pulmonary embolisim could be fatal, you are one of the lucky ones. You can always get a second opinion, and try to improve your health issues as much as possible. So that you would be able to under go the gastric by pass at a later date. I had special blood work done prior to my surgery see if I would be more prone to an embolisim, as my motber died from an pulmonary embolisim( totally out of the blue no surgery or health issues to acctount for such a thing to happen) I was still reminded by the doctor that clots are a chance so I did everything I could help my chances of not getting a clot. At the hospital if they told me they wanted me up walking at least every 1/2 hour, then I would get up every 15 minutes. I knew there would be things that I had no control over, so the things I did have controll of I did just that.
Good Luck, and don't be afraid to ask questions. I got some of the greatest help and insight from the people on this board. It has been a good pursuit for me.
