Still stuck up!
Hi All,
I wanted to update everyone on my motility (or lack thereof) problems. My surgeon had me see a Gastroenterologist last week. I am still not able to "go" (it's like it's stuck) at all without the assistance of an enema, and the stomach pains that sent me to the ER have happened 2 more times. The Gastro feels it's as if my colon is immobile.
The Gastro. put me on Reglan 3 times a day for a week and a brand new drug called Amitza, which is for "chronic constipation of unknown origin". The Zelnorm didn't work at all, which is odd, and if anything it made the constipation worse. So, I started the Reglan on Thursday and already......I went !!!! The other medicine is on order and will be in Tuesday. Walgreen's Pharmacist told me it's so new, they have never filled a scrip. for it before.
The bad thing is that I can't stay on the Reglan for more than a week, as per this Gastroenterologist, because it can cause severe depression/mood changes. Being I already have a history of depression, the Doc said one week and then stop. I pray the Amitza works or I'll be sent for more invasive procedures to see what's causing this.
I don't want any of the "Newbies" out there to be frightened by my post-op problem. Yeah, it sucks. Yeah, it's affecting my day to day life. But....I would still do the surgery again in a NY minute. I was dying before...and now, 84 pounds down, I am living!
Hugs to all
Karen

HI Karen,
Needless to say, I hope the new med works out for you. While I'm sure you already have tried this, are you getting enough water, roughage in your diet, exercise? Also, I hear that warm prune juice works wonders on a sluggish bowel. 84 pounds is amazing! It seems like you just had surgery! You go girl!
Let us know how things work out.
Hugs,
Amy
Hi Karen,
Glad to hear your starting to feel better, I had the same problems and went to the ER many times!!! Zelnorm did thankfully work for me.
But I have a question, do you eat alot of fibery things (granola or oatmeal) or Splenda? B/c for me, that was the root of a lot of my problems. Just something to consider!
Good luck!!!

Hi Karen,
Reglan does work wonders but is isnt for long term use. I was on it for a couple of weeks (a looong time ago) and started to get some nasty neurological side effects, no good. I was taking an antibotic to help with all of my stasis problems but it stopped working...so the GI doctor is now saying to try the reglan again but I really do not want to.
Keep doing what you are doing! Your are doing great...hopefully this all will pass sooner rather than later.
Please call me anytime if you need anything! Take care and be well.
