Joe, As you can tell everyone loves their surgeons!!! That is the way it should be.  But I have to agree with Lori and Debra P when it comes to Dr. Holover and Dr. Garber. I am a Dr. Holover paitient and I absolutely love him. He is just a knowledgeable and caring doctor. As you can tell I have no complaints with my surgeon! Good luck  on your search. Tara

Dear Tara, Does Dr. Holover do both band and RnY? What specifically did you like about him? Another poster said that he takes Oxford. I'll call to check, but do you happen to know? Also, which hospital does her operate out of? Sincerely and thank you, Joe

Thanks Lori.... I am learning that the hospital and the post-surgical care provided are almost as important as the doc. I have heard mediocre things about Mercy. What's your take? Sincerely, Joe

Hi Joe. Well Mercy was ok I had no real issues with them. The Bariatric coordinator Anna Stoessel is awesome she works hand and hand with Dr. Garbers office. Like I said it wasn't the Ritz but for the short time you are there it  was good. Everything went smoothly and on schedule the day of surgery. Post surgical was as ordered by the Docs no real problems. Lori

Hi Joe- I just want to chime in since you are a newbie. Most insurance companies require that you have 6 months of medically supervised dieting before you can have wls. So you might want to call your insurance company and find out if this is necessary. Quite often you see many posters here who aren't aware that this is a requirement.

Good luck on your journey.

Donna, Joe has Oxford.  Not sure if its Freedom but  my Oxford Freedom does not require six months of a medically supervised diet.  You have to have a BMI over 40 and you are automatically approved with a report from the GBS and PCP.

Joe, I have Oxford HMO Freedom plan and am using Dr. Holover for my upcoming (hopefully) surgery. I met him for an initial consultation and he is totally awesome.  He spent a great deal of time with me and my Mom explaining all the aspects of surgery. When I left the office, I felt much more at ease about the whole thing.

My sister, Karen I, used Dr. Holover's partner Dr. Garber. I have nothing but praise for him. He does not participate in any insurance plans, but is willing to work with you if you have out-of-network benefits. Unfortunately, I found out at the beginning of this journey that I have NO out-of-network benefits.  My sister is extremely confident with both Dr. Garber and Dr. Holover.  You can check out there website at: http://stopobesityforlife.com/ . It explains alot and is a great place to start. Best of luck as you start your journey to the loser's bench. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me or my sister (Karen I) who had Lap RNY on 9/12/06 and has lost over 125lbs!!!  Take Care, Lisa
