Family Doctor Approval

) & I was not going to do something so drastic!! But alas, 3 yrs have come & gone & not only did I not lose the weight I said I could but I gained more!! So my opinion is you go to the seminar, ask lots of questions & do a lot of research then go back to your pcp & present it all & make a list of pros & cons too!! If you still can't get his support/approval then find another one who will!! It's your health & you need to take total control over it!! Nobody else has that right!!! You have weight records at your gyno's offce so that might appease the ins co but whatever you do don't give up!!! Even if it takes a while keep your eye on the ultimate goal!! We'll be here to help you through it all... there are folks on here than have gone through hell & back to get their surgery... they've seen it all & can help you with anything!! Good luck!!!
Cece Hi there. I can tell you that Oxford freedom is very good with approvals for WLS, and you automically qualify being 100 lbs. overweight.. My doctor's partner, Dr. Spencer Holover is in the network...I don't know who else on LI or NYC is. With all bariatric surgeons, you have to go through several tests, none of which are with your PCP. (psych eval., cardio, breathing (forgot what that doc is called,) etc. My doc's office had a list of several specialists to choose from, and I chose ones who took Oxford Freedom and had the soonest appointments. Now that I think about it, I did have to have my PCP's office put through the referrals, and I did have to have my pre-op testing signed off on by my PCP. When I had to get the referrals done, I just called my PCP's office & told them what I needed--I never even spoke to him. (He knew about the WLS and was very supportive) Personally, I would say that being 100 lbs. overweight for 17 years and wanting to have WLS is your decision, not your doctor's., as long as you have no medical condition precluding it. I'm sure that if you could have lost the weight, you would have done so already!
Good luck, and keep us posted!
