For patients of Synergy Bariatrics - Dr. Caruana

My friend and I had Lap RNY w/ Caruana's former partner Panemanglore just about 5 months ago. We had 1 post-op visit week after WLS. Then a 1 month visit in July w/ labwork that was within normal limits. Had our 4 month check up last Tues. w/ Aubrey, no labs ordered...don't have to return until April '08. I thought that pre-surgery someone in their office had told me I'd have quarterly visits with bloodwork each time for the first year out? What is Synergy ordering for the rest of you?

I had lap band surgery done in Syracuse.  My last appt. was August 8th.  I was told then I didn't need to come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  2 months out of surgery and they didn't need/want to see me???  WTF?   Anyway, I called and scheduled with the doc for 11/9.  I want another fill and feel they need to see my progress and answer any questions I may have!  I can't imagine with RNY they  don't want to see you until 2008!!  YIKES! Right, same thing I thought. My boss had open RNY and she went every 3 mos. the first year having bloodwork each time. She still goes every 6 mos. at 3 1/2 yrs. out! The practioner left the exam room to take a phone call for about 15mins. I was thinking that maybe she forgot, but then again, my friend saw her the same day and she had no labs ordered and doesn't have to go back 'til April '08 either.  P.S. You're looking super, by the way!!

That's so bizarre to me!  I hope they don't think we're disposable!  LOL  We aren't!

Yes...I was a little shocked when I went back to Dr. C's office on October 9th (5 months out)  They told me that my next appointment would be in 6 months...that my labs were great from my last appointment.  I was thinking I might call my primary in a couple of months and have him run some labs...just in case. My friend said same as you, maybe have PCP order the labs. My concern is that although my first and only set of labs were within normal limits, my potassium, protein and kidney function were at the low end of normal.Maybe I'll call PCP and check into whether they will or not. They're not always the most helpful. Thanks for the info share!

My daughter and I both had RNY with Dr. C and our story is the same as Rosemary's.  We were seen at approximately our 5 month date and were told we would be seen again in 6month. Lab work has been ordered once and that was at the time of our 3 month check up.   They told us it would be ordered again at what would be about 10 months from the time of surgery.  I was a little suprised.  I thought there would be more blod work done within the first year of surgery and maybe one more office visit from what there is.   Just have to have faith that they know what they are doing and know when we need to be seen and have blood work.    My PCP did order my A1C and blood sugar levels so she could tell if I could come off my diabetic medication..............which I did........YAHOO!!! Wow! No more diabetes meds is great! I am glad I won't have to make trips to Buffalo over the winter, but was a litle surprised. Thanks for replying to my post. Take care of you!!
