I was so happy to come across your post.  I am new to this online forum & all of your questions are ones I have also.  I have been looking into the surgery for 2 years.   I just hooked up with Dr. Caruana's at their seminar Feb. 13, 2008.  I just have so many questions about the entire thing.  I find most people in this forum are from far away, not many in western NY for Dr Caruana.  I am originally from Buffalo, & just moved here to Fredonia area 3 years ago.      I hope I can find my way around this web site, & find my way back to this discussion.  I would love to keep in touch with you & others from Dr. Caruana's.

I have surgery with Dr. Carauana in August 06 and it was the best thing that I have ever done.  Hi and his office staff are AWESOME.  I was EXTREMELY OBESE and now I have lost 242 and I still loose 1 or 2 most weeks but my humger has returned and its getting hard. Overall I have most happy with my decision and would do it again~no questions asked.  I wish you all the luck and success with your surgery~CarolyninLA

I am so happy to see a post about questions for western NYers with Dr. Caruana!  I have the same questions & I am new to this whole online forum thing.  I would love to pursue further conversations with pre-op & post-op patients of Dr. Caruana.   I have sooooo many questions & I'm in a hurry to get through this after researching for 2 years.  This is my moment & it can't happen fast enough.  I would love to get any info, advice, paperwork tips, pre & post-op information.  You can never learn too much about a decision like this.  I'm older than most people I've heard from, I'm certainly not getting any younger.   Thank you for taking the time to help.

Dr Caruana rocks.  I had surgery in January 2007 and so far, i'm down 150 lbs.  I'm still slowly losing.  He was so understanding, and had such a wonderful bedside manner. Absolutely wonderful.  I have 1 complication and it was my heart rate went over 200 right after surgery.  Surgery went great, but later that night for some reason my heart decided to speed up and I ended up in the cardiac care unit in ICU.  I had blood transfusions, and meds.  My heart rate finally came down after a few days in ICU and was allowed to go back to the regular wing where the other post ops were.  My surgery was on a Monday and I was released that Friday morning.  That Friday night I was walking around the mall shopping like nothing happened.  That was my own body reacting, but the surgery went very good.
