I am so frustrated !( Warning a little Long !)

Hi all ! I went to see the Hematologist doc. yesterday and after getting blood drawn three different times last week he does not know what is causing my prolonged clotting time ! He say's I am a mystery ! He said that everything is coming back normal except for the PTT which is the prolonged clotting test. He has tested me for everything that he thought could possibly be causing it except for VON Willibrandts disease (not sure if that is the correct sp.) So he drew some more blood yesterday for that test. I have to wait til Friday or Monday to find out the results . If they come back positive foe this disease then I have to go back to him and get a shot of some kind of drug and wait three hours in a chemo. treatment chair and be tested and retested to see if the drug has brought my clotting time to a better number ! It is getting really frustrating for me to have all this to deal with when my surgery is just 2 weeks away and I have not even gotten the ins. approval yet b/c they are waiting on the Hematologist clearence before they can get the approval. The Hema. doc says that my clotting time is only 5 sec. longer and he does not feel that I will have any problem's with bleeding but he has to test me for everything that he can b/c he say's there is something my blood is lacking and I should find out what it is and fix it . He will not give clearence until he feels that he has done all he can . He then say's that he wants to send me to Albany , Hematology b/c they have more sophisticated testing there . Boy, I am not looking forward to this ! I had my pre-surgery testing done today and I am glad that is over , now if I could only get past this blood clotting issue ! I have to run to Schenactady area every day this week for appts. and I had to last week as well ! The drive is an hour long so it is really getting to me now ! My pocket book is feeling the pain too ! Anyhow , I will let everyone know how I make out . Thanks once again for listening to me vent ! and Carol

Carol, This sounds a lot like me right before my surgery. No one could figure out why my WBC was high and then poof it just went away. Oh well. It was all a big waste of my time and everyone elses trying to figure it out. Just keep focused and you will get there! Take care and feel good. Tavia

Hey Carol, this is what i have been dealing with for the last 2 years. I was rulled out for everything . I went to two specialists, one follows me at st vincents he is awsome, and he sent me to someone else up at cornell last year. They discovered that my platlets do not function correctly. THey do not respond the way they are supposed to. They did think it was the Von Willie crap but it wasnt. Since they cannot after 2 years really figure out why this is happening they always clear me for surgery but i need to have a platlet transfusion prior to or just after depending on the procedure. My bleeding time tests always go way over the time allowed. I bruise easily also, this is what brought me to the hematologist in the first place. I had to have letters from both hematologists clearing me for the surgery. They felt that i would be fine in surgery and i had platlets on hand just in case, but never needed them! If you ever want to talk or have any questions about all of this email me anytime! LisaMarie

Carol, I'm sorry to hear of your clotting issues. It sounds like your surgeon is being very careful and there's nothing wrong with that. It is a bump in the road and you will get past it. I guess the good side of that is that you are at lower risk for developing clots after surgery which is a serious ris****ep us posted on your progress. You'll do fine. Hugs, Amy

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you hon that this will get resolved and everything will proceed as planned! Sometimes these little hitches make us even more grateful when surgery finally comes! I had to go in twice for mine before I got it done. I remember being devastated when I woke up from anesthesia to find out that they hadn't done my bypass because of other complications. That rocked my world at the time and now 5 months later I almost forgot it ever happened!! Hugs, Vi
