Question about Food $$

Years ago, when I was about 25 I quit smoking. Could not wait to save all of that money that I was spending on cigs. Anyway, since I channeled that money into food apparently (my story of obesity is so long and tangled that is only about 25 lbs worth though) I never really saw the diff. My question is, (for those post-op) do you find that now that you are eating better and less and not giving into cravings for fast foods and sweets that you are noticing the difference in the amount of money you spend/save? Thanks

Well I'm definitely not spending much on food. I went out to eat with my friends on Friday and we all get separate checks so we can use our debit cards -- their checks were $25 and $15 and mine was only $7.50! I usually just order a small appetizer as my meal and I don't get drinks anymore (though I had a couple of ounces of my friends' margarita, YUM!!). I do, however, find myself spending more on getting fat free lattes or clothes and make up! I also bought myself an elliptical machine which I have to pay off and I bought myself a brand new memory foam bed, so I guess the money I don't spend on food, I'm channeling elsewhere.

I don't know if I really save much on food--I buy less --but I spend more for leaner meats and higher quality vegetables--also I find that the I spend more for spices and flavorings. I love fresh ground coffee --I make my own lattes(sugar free and skim milk) I buy sugar free syrups to put in my foods and drinks. So although I eat a lot less --I spend more to purchase better foods. I guess that it kind of evens out. Well not really--I have started to buy clothes again--even though I am still a size twelve--I like to feel good --even while I am losing--and yes, I still have a long way to go --but oh well Be Blessed, Marian S.C. 242.4/168.4/goal 125-130??

Hi Kathy, Yep my money is going to clothes and shoes now! My husband says to me, "when did you get that shirt or when did you get those shoes?" I just say, "oh awhile ago." (even though it was yesturday) Ha. He just shrugs it off. I think he knows but he just wants me to be happy and feel good so I dont think he cares too much. Hugs Tavia

I actually find that now, since I can eat less, I focus more on the tastes and flavors, which means I'll go for the slightly higher quality stuff (and/or spices) and less on the quantity... I know at work, I end up getting lunch every OTHER day and having leftovers the in-between days, as opposed to getting lunch out every day (or eating it 'on the road' for dinner if I've got something going on that night), so that reduces the 'food bill' in that regard by half.. And overall, I would say that my food bill has gone down some, but again, because I've increased the quality, not as much as you'd think.. As with most things, your mileage might vary... ...N

Hi, I rarely eat out in a restaurant with service pre and post op. I used to eat fast food and lived in buffets. Now, my money is going toward supplements, makeup, and I do find my grocery bill has gone up with the healthy food. And pretty soon..clothes-LOL Kristine
