Sad news guys, I do not remember if I mentioned this before but I met this woman while I was in the hospital in Jan. who was very sick. (I respect her families privacy so I dont want to go into details.) Her sister contacted me yesturday and told me that she passed on from peritonitis. Her sister said she was eating excessive quantities that ruptured her staple line once again. I dont know if this sounds like a horrible-horrible thing to say but this is an example of the serious consequences anyone can have if you turn noncompliant following this type of serious surgery and how this surgery isn't for everyone. I am so saddened to hear this b/c she seemed like such a sweet girl and was loved very very much. Her sister is understandability devastated. I hope and pray that her family can find some peace.

Tavia, Hun that is so sad! ~hugs~ I will keep her family and yours in my thoughts and prayers! When I was in the hospital for my surgery there was another women who pushed it with eating the DAY after her surgery but thank God that someone overheard her telling her hubby to bring all this food back with him and they got it stopped, explained that it was because she was so thursty and it makes you feel like you are soooo hungry.....Thank God that worked out for her but I guess that was the same feeling. Hun if you want to chat just call or email me and I can call you ~hugs~ I hope you are doing well hun. Debra P

A day after?? oh my lord. From what she told me, she ruptured her staple line twice before. She was in the hospital when I was in Jan. b/c she just ruptured it again(the third) and had emergency surgery to refix it once again. And it looks like it happened again. That stinks so so much. I feel so terrible.

Tavia, Yeah the morning after!!! After her leak test she was asking for "real food" from her hubby, someone overheard this and told the head nurse. I am so glad I did not share that room with her because it would have made me crazy as I was struggling just to ge****er down. Debra P

Oh Tavia , How horribly sad for her family--I feel so bad for people who have this surgery and then find it so difficult to follow the rules --I guess that's why I see a psycholigist on a regular basis! --I have to deal with the emotional eating and it isn't easy--especially for those of us who have had absolutely NO complications! That sounds a little crazy--but it is true! Some of us don't suffer from Horrendous "dumping" of any kind. We don't lose our appetites. And what's worse, we still love food. It is hard --believe me! We have to be even more strict about our food intake than we were before surgery! I am a slow loser (because of my age, and the fact that I had radiation treatment for my thyroid). I have to re-read my "Rules of the Pouch" each month to keep myself on track, and I really have to deal with the "Head Hunger". I didn't really lose my appetite. and yes, Everyone else seems to have no appetite and they are "NEVER" hungry. I won't lie--I AM ! I have to battle each day to continue on this journey--and I understand how a person could fail. I feel so bad for your friend and the family! But I also thank you for the warning! I will print your post and put it on the refrigerator--Just to remind myself of what can happen --if I don't stay on track. Please add my prayers of condolence to yours. Be Blessed, Marian S.C. 242.4/168.4/goal 125-130??

While this news is very sad, I thank you for sharing it. I will pray for this lady and her family.....hopefully she has found peace. I am glad you shared this news from an educational perspective. I really have not worried so much about physical dangers of over eating.......more the idea that if I overate, i would "stretch" my new stomach. This brings back to the forefront the more dangerous aspects. I do not overeat, but will definitely keep this story in mind if I ever get the urge. By the way..........how are you? I have been thinking about you lately. SH
